Sticky cursor - AutoCAD 2017

A team mate is attempting to work on an AutoCAD 2017 DWG that is stored on our network. The cursor becomes slow and jerky when they are in a command. I have already turned Hardware Acceleration off, and followed the steps -

  • Enable or disable hardware acceleration within AutoCAD (see How to enable or disable hardware acceleration in AutoCAD).

  • Change the following variables within AutoCAD (type them on the command line):

    SELECTIONCYCLING = 0
    UCSDETECT = 0
    ORTHOMODE = 0
    DYNMODE = 0
    ROLLOVERTIPS = 0
    SAVEFIDELITY = 0
    QPMODE = 0
    SNAPMODE = 0
    SELECTIONPREVIEW = 0
    PROPERTYPREVIEW = 0
  • Close the Properties palette (CTRL-1).

Still the same. The exact same problems arise at my machine, both when I have opened the DWG from the network and also when I have saved a copy to my desktop.

A deadline is coming up. Our chocolate supplies are running low. Help please!

Hi @Sahay_R,

Does your co-worker have SNAP turned on? Try using F9 to toggle it and see if it makes a difference.

Forgot to mention - had turned SNAP off too. No good.

Thank you @john.vellek !

Solution to benefit future generations - I unloaded one of the XREFs with magical results.

I had one particular file that had a sticky cursor when a command was active.It was like the cursor was hunting for something to snap to. Sort of like the grid snap was on, but more random. And the grid & gridsnap was off.

The problem was just on this one file. I did a WBLOCK - entire drawings, detached all the xrefs. Still sticky. HW acceleration on/off, no fix.

This was being worked on in ACAD 2018 by the other person and saved in 2013 format. I opened it in 2019.

I went through every setting listed in the solution and nothing changed the sticky cursor when a command was open.

What did finally fix it was interesting, but I don't understand why.

With osnap on/off, still sticky. But . . . with osnap on I unchecked "Extension". No more sticky cursor.

I re-checked "Extension", still no sticky cursor. So I can't turn the sticky cursor on and off. So for me, it's not repeatable.

Go figure.
