Spacemouse with AutoCAD

Spacemouse with AutoCAD

I would like to use my Spacemouse with AutoCAD, however AutoCAD requires the viewport to be unlocked.

This doesn't work for me, as I use drawings with multiple viewports, and the Spacemouse then only moves the selected viewport, which then messes up my whole drawing.

Is there any workaround, or could the developers at AutoCAD PLEASE allow the Spacemouse to move the entire drawing?  This way I can move and zoom over the entire drawing.

Its just the driver in AutoCAD, and similar functionality is provided using the middle mouse button and mouse wheel.

I'm not certain i understand the problem you are having.

Ar you in paper space or model space when you are trying to do this?

Welcome to the forums.

You have to be in Model Space or an unlocked viewport to get the functionality of the spacemouse.

Paper Space is only 2 dimensional so there is no 3D view to be had.

If the spacemouse messes up your other viewports you should lock the other viewports before modifying the active one.

I have a SpaceMouse also.  I love it.  What I have found is in Paperspace, I can zoom and pan.  However, if I have a viewport selected, I can't.  Also, if I go into a viewport, i.e. maximize a viewport, I can't use the spacemouse.  That does get a bit frustrating.  Most of my drawings are not too large so going back to modelspace to manipulate isn't too bad of a solution for me.  I have started using Views to set up viewports in paperspace.  It also means I can quickly go to a particular part of the drawing, but of course that means more clicks.

Without knowing exactly your problem we can only guess at your solution.

I have reread a couple times and i think you problem may be that by default the navbar in paperspace is disabled. if you type NAVBAR and turn it on you can use your space mouse to pan an zoom in paper space.

This is the answer I have been looking for!!! Allows the use of the space mouse in paperspace for 2D pan and zoom functions. I use the spacemouse for modelling in Advance Steel, but I could never get the spacemouse to work in paperspace.

Thank you!!

I recently started using my spacemouse setup after being away for a while and found the same issue, model space and the mouse worked flawless, papers pace did not work. This fixed it up, thank you so much for the solution !!!!!

Thanks for posting this - pretty much zero chance I'd have found this solution without your help!

AutoCAD still wont allow panning/zooming with Spacemouse when you are in a locked viewport. Has anyone figured a solution to this yet?

Locked viewports are intended to stop panning and zooming. Are you saying you want to pan in paper space and its not letting you?

No, it works fine in paperspace, I just can't zoom/pan when focused inside a locked viewport as I would with my mouse wheel.

There is an automatic command happening when doing that with the mouse wheel. It says: "Viewport is view-locked. Switching back to paperspace."

I just wish spacemouse would do that too.

Locked viewports are intended to stop panning and zooming: whether you use a mouse wheel or not, that is by design.

BUT... perhaps what you are using for words and what actions you want are different: show us with video please.

@prousseauCQJ6U thanks for the video.

Looks like you need Spacemouse Support to do a deep dive into your system to see if what you crave is even an option or a missed setting in their driver https://3dconnexion.com/us/support-request/login/

This is an 'issue' with the space mouse. AutoCAD is behaving as intended, but it looks like the space mouse could use a new feature. The way the mouse is calling zoom and the way space mouse is calling it are different.

If you don't have any of your custom buttons assigned you could add one to switch to paperspace.

Reviving this for a second. I've been using the 3d spacemouse successfully for a few weeks. I opened one file today and every time I use it to rotate, the navbar switches to 2d mode and only allows a pan and zoom. How do I get it to let me rotate with the 3d mouse?
