Slow network file load times on AutoCAD and AutoCAD C3D

Hello,

I have a brand new dell precision workstation (T5810) that is loading network files at a very slow pace. The computer is a Xeon E5-1630 v4, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA Quadro M4000. I have several other machines on my network that do not experience the same issue. I can open a network file and the network traffic will stay in the low kB and peak at 4mB for less than a second. The load time for that specific file is around 2.5 minutes. Where if I try and open it on the same network port but a different computer, I can see network spikes of up to 450mB per second. 

Does anyone have the same issue?

Please tell me, if you copy these large files to your computer do you see any speed issues with the copy?  Does AutoCAD open them quickly if they are stored locally?

Are these files plain AutoCAD or is there an AutoCAD vertical product involved? I have seen cases where removing the Civil object enabler fixed a network speed issue.

Which version of AutoCAD are you using? I know that there were some speed issues with AutoCAD Civil 3D (2014-2017 product) at one point and there some fixes that became available that should remedy that part.

Hey John, 

It seems that it does not matter if the files are stored locally or on a server. The files still load slowly compared to a machine that is half its price. I do not believe that the files have any vertical product integration. How would I determine that? I have AutoCAD 2016 updated to the most recent version.

What is your Windows OS, what is your Server OS, and how are you connected to it?

Things to try:
1) if you unplug from your network as a test and work on local files, does the problem go away? It should.
2) if you reset AutoCAD to defaults and restart your PC, does it still do so? Here is how to do that https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...
3) if you log in as an all new user in WIndows on your PC, with admin credentials, do these problems go away?

I was unable to come up with a solution to this issue. Currently, the computer is in a storage closet being used as a backup.

Hi @Anonymous,

Did you try Dean's suggestions?  Usually I see this kind of issue related to a path being invalid. It could also be a license check issue.  A Reset Settings to Default should set all the paths to default. Without doing any further customization this should behave normally. Then you could add in your network paths if any to see where things start to break down.

You might also check to see if the Computer is happy with the domain account. Sometimes it is worth removing it and then putting it back into the domain.
