Sheet Set Title Block Fields not updating...?

I'm pretty unfamiliar with Sheet Sets and am trying to set up a title block (eventually a template) that will automate the title block information with the sheet set properties.

I created a (title) block and inserted text fields that refer to the "current sheet set". Then I inserted the (title) block onto my layout tab. It seems like some of the fields are updating, but most of the are not.

If I insert the text fields directly onto my layout (not nested in a block), then they seem to update. But that would also seem to defeat the purpose.

Am I doing something wrong here?

In the software options, check your Field Update settings. Sometimes you need to do a save/regen for fields to update.

Also the fields need to be attribute objects in the title block, not Mtext or text objects.

Thanks for the response, but no bananas. I tried playing with attributes yesterday, but got the same result as this morning...empty fields.

DST file is open. FIELDEVAL is set to the default (31). And all boxes are checked in the field update settings. All fields in each of the attributes refers to CURRENTSHEETSET or CURRENTSHEET.

All of the layers are NOT frozen in the block and in the drawing.

I tried the UPDATEFIELDS command again (in the drawing and in the block, itself). It reported that 7 fields were found and updated, but nothing happened.

Any other ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

After you add the attributes to your title block use the ATTSYNC command and then the select option and then select your title block to update it.  It's working here

@user181   Thanks. I'll give you partial credit for that.

ATTSYNC seemed to fix most of the problems, except for a couple of custom fields, but those problems were user (me) error.

There is one other weird thing going on that is really confusing me. Right now, I have a single DWG with three layouts in it. All three layouts are referenced by the active sheet set. c. 90% of the sheet set fields seem to be working and updating correctly.

However, there is one field devoted to the Sheet Title (a standard sheet property). On two of the three layouts, the field is working fine, but on one layout, the Sheet Title is not updating. Though it is defined in the sheet set file.

And there are other standard sheet properties (revision no., sheet no., etc.) that are working fine on all three layouts.

Any thoughts?

Try right clicking on the problem sheet in SSM, go to sheet properties and re-associating that layout to the Sheet Set. Then see if the field updates. Sometimes a sheet will get partially disconnected but still open from SSM.

Renaming layouts or drawing files can cause that.

@CADmgrMike   I removed and re-associated the problem layout from the sheet set manager, saved, and then re-associated as you recommended...no dice.

So I just made a copy of one of the working layouts, copied over the viewports from the problem layout, and associated the newly copied layout in the sheet set manager...that worked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for all of the help and input!

Glad you figured it out. Fields in SSM are a real time saver and they work awesome most of the time. Every now and then they will throw you a curve ball.

I find that SSM causes so many issues that it isn't worth using. It becomes a massive time-sink and there are always issues with fields, whether they don't update, someone changes a file name and it needs to be re-imported, issues with the 2023 Sheet Set Manager for Web.... there's always issues and inefficiencies that eventually require the minimum input of an external piece of software in order to just get it to a workable form.

Here for example, ATTSYNC doesn't work - fields don't update.

BATTMAN doesn't sync, doesn't work.

There ought to be a 100% fixable solution for every single issue with Sheet Set Manager.
It needs to be re-built from the ground-up - but even then, their attempt of "Sheet Set Manager for Web" has a plethora of issues.

For the Field Syncing / updating issue, the solution is in the variable FIELDEVAL - check this link https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/sheet-set-not-updating-fields-automatically/td-p/18127...
