SELECT SIMILAR not working as expected

I've set SELECTSIMILAR to select objects based on layer name alone but it's not working. It selects objects based on layer and object type.

Same with selecting by colour only. It seems to select by colour and object type.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Might be easier to use GETSEL command to select an object on the layer you want to select all objects on, the hit enter to select all objects on that layer. No settings to worry about.
