Running Vanilla & Electrical on the same machine

Hi,

My computer does not differentiate between AutoCAD & Electrical when I click the icons. I installed vanilla AutoCAD before installing Electrical. Both are 2017.

If I open Electrical prior, when I try to open vanilla it will load Electrical.

However, if I open Bentley AutoPlant, then I try to open Vanilla, I am successful- and I can still open Electrical. Is there a simple way to get my desktop icon issue cleared up so I can open the correct program?

It seems like vanilla CAD defaults to what was last opened, while Electrical holds its ground.

Why not just use ELECTRICAL "as autocad" when you need it, create a unique workspace that loads that menu and switch between them all day long. They are a the core one and the same program.

Then you can remove/uninstall plain AutoCAD.

Your ACADE peers in that forum could probably walk you though it if you need help https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-electrical/ct-p/2035

Hi,

Typically, the specialized toolsets (ACAD Electrical) load with a profile specific to using the product. However, AutoCAD typically does not start with a set profile, so it will default to last used.

Like was said, you can use the Vanilla profile shortcut from Electrical.

Or, on your vanilla shortcut, right click and go to properties and at the end of the shortcut target box add a /p and the profile name that you commonly use for Vanilla AutoCAD. That way it will ensure you don't accidentally start in a weird profile.
