Block Date

From inside an AutoCAD file, is there a way to determine when a block was CREATED?  In other words, does AutoCAD store block information like when the block was created, when it was inserted into the current file, when has it been updated (what dates), etc.?   We are needing to determine if the blocks in a drawing are outdated compared to what exists in our block libraries.  Any help would be appreciated.

No, there is no history attached to blocks inside DWG files.

Do you need to use WBLOCK to export it then use COMPARE command to compare two files instead (they cannot remain blocks during COMPARE command, you need the source files) https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/AutoC...

Hi,

>> a way to determine when a block was CREATED?

Answer to that ... sorry no, AutoCAD does not save who or when a block was inserted into the dwg-file.

Hello @james_salter ,

Someone previously asked this question on the forums and ultimately the answer was no, there is no way to find the time of creation for a block. Here is the link to the previous question:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/block-creation-date/td-p/7255084

From the Recent Blocks palette in AutoCAD 2020, you can find the time that the block was last accessed by a user. However, you can't find when it was inserted into the current file or get a history of updates.

You may be able to determine differences between blocks in your current drawing and those in your block libraries by using Dwg Compare. For example, you could WBLOCK out the block in your drawing and WBLOCK the block in the library and compare them.

Dwg compare documentation.
