Ribbon Behavior modification

I would like to change how the ribbon acts when I select an object, I want the ribbon to stay on the home tab until I want it to be on a different tab that I manually select. Is that possible? The reason for this is because I almost never want the selection AutoCAD comes up with for the Ribbon Tabs (it is Impossible for it to predict what I want and it is NEVER correct) I usually just want to check what layer something is on only or I am going to view its properties the Ribbon constantly changing when I am working on an object really cuts into my production as I am constantly having to switch the ribbon back to the home tab which is exactly where I would like it to be at all times.

Hi @peells,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I do not believe there is any way to defeat the context-sensitive menu.  Perhaps though utilizing the properties palette would help to alleviate some of the behavior you describe.

Dock the PROPERTIES palette and use it instead.

change the focus of your contextual tabs to 'full without focus',

so you have access to all contextual tabs, but the focus still on the current tab.

Example for selected (DWG) Xref.

For Layer information i would use the LAYER option in QAT (QuickAccessToolbar)

or usual toolbars.

command: -toolbar

LAYERS (and perhaps also PROPERTIES)

show

Another tip based on that good tip. Go in and make the layer drop down wider. Then you can see all those long layer names without them being cut off and without clicking on it. I went in and kept adjusting the width until I could see the full name of my layer with the longest name.

And for users with 2014 and older: RibbonContextSelect

I knew about the width/size option 🙂

But I can add to your tip: I use this code for Width instead of a strictly defined digit as written

NaN

It allows for resizing when for example the REFEDIT ribbon buttons show up.

This works!! My ribbon now stays where I left it before I clicked on a hatched object, or an xref, and it should work for other items reacting the same way as these. When you find something you do not want the ribbon changing from the home tab by random selecting of objects.
