Rendering Inquiry?

Hello.

I have just got my new computer build up and running.
It has a RTX TITIAN 24GB (GPU), an Intel i9-9900KS 8-Core (CPU), 64GB DDR4-3200MHz (RAM), & (2x) SAMSUNG 860 PRO SSD's.

I am having issues getting a render done to 100 levels.
I will attach the Render (1080p) that I have gotten to 38 levels over 3 Days, but at that point I was looking at 1 level per day, as it has slowed down quite a bit;

This was with a CPU priority render (Set by Level) running CPU at 98% to 100% - AutoCAD set to High-Prioirty.
It was utilizing my GPU at 2% to 3%. . .

I also did a GPU priority render test (Set by time) ran it for 20 hours and the results were terrible.
GPU was at around 24% and CPU was at about 21% while rendering.

I'm an annotative 2D power house, and know very little about 3D rendering in ACAD and have a few questions for the CAD Overlord out there. . .

First question: Am I dreaming to get a 100 levels using High-Resolution textures instead of Medium for my renders?
"Please find attached the 38 level Rendered Image"

Second question: Is there a way I can tell AutoCAD to abuse the socks off my GPU?

Third question: Should I be laughing with the hardware I have selected on my build? Is it my failure to optimize settings to utilize the hardware correctly?

I'm just a run of the mill lad, trying to get some fun 3D concepts brought to life. Problem with me is, maybe bringing my models to life means the best AutoCAD can deliver.

If anyone out there can help me with suggestions, or direct me to the proper reading material, I hereby summon the Overload! 🤓

Thank you.

Kevin Biggin. . .

Hi,

please try 3DS-Max, that has different render engines, also for utilizing the GPU instead of the CPU.

I have seen a lot of wasted time by using texture maps that have a much too high resolution for the result they can achieve. E.g. if the text "SIGAD" on your rendered image uses 400x200pixel on the render result it is not needed to have an image with 4000x2000pixel as the source.

Also one switch (depending on the version of AutoCAD you are working with), setting "Render Accuracy" to "high" never worked for me, it needed longer with a less good result.

>> Is there a way I can tell AutoCAD to abuse the socks off my GPU?

No. AutoCAD (current) does not have a switch for "render on GPU"

>> Should I be laughing with the hardware I have selected on my build?

We don't know which software you use on this system.

As we are in the AutoCAD forum I can only speak about the AutoCAD part:

Intel i9 is very optimized for multi-threading, AutoCAD in general is a single thread application which means an Intel i7 would perform better during working with AutoCAD ... however, you are using the render engine and this is one of the parts inside AutoCAD which can work multithreading. But I have not seen any comparison between i7 and i9 for AutoCAD rendering performance yet.

The RTX Titian to just work with AutoCAD ... yes, AutoCAD's usage of DirectX will never force this graphic card to ruhn at full power.

Again, I don't know which other software you are working with, so I can't say if the hardware is ok or not.

If rendering is your main job, I can only suggest to try 3DS-Max or other applications with the main focus on rendering. However, AutoCAD can render, it's absolutely ok if you need a few renderings a year.

Hey Alfred.

Thank you very much for your response. I am so excited to get into 3D modeling as I am now just a 2D annotative powerhouse at work.

That design was just something simple to test textures and lighting, but I can see now that 3D rending is my dream hobby, it’s almost as satisfying as building something, with an actual tangible outcome.

I am going to purchase a month subscription to 3DS MAX and try it out. I understand now what the big brother program is all about 🙂

Thank you kindly good sir.

You even pushed this agenda forward, on something I have been contemplating for a while.

Can't wait to see where this next program takes me!

If you know a good set of reference material to get me started it would me greatly appreciated, but regardless Google is king!

Cheers!

Kevin. 😎
