I have a keyplan for a residential site set up in paper space. Is there a way of drawing a rectangle around my working area (so for example a box around a bedroom I am working on) in paper space and that automatically linking to the key plan in my layout tabs and adding and scaling a rectangle accordingly? I know I can copy, paste and scale but I was hoping this could be automated.
Thanks!

Read about the CHSPACE command.

Hi,
Yeah, I know the CHSPACE command. However I might have a sheet zoomed in on Bedroom 1. If I draw a rectangle around bedroom one and use CHSPACE, the rectangle will be the size of my viewport. I was hoping for something that would apply a rectangle around the area of Bedroom 1 on a keyplan block showing the whole house, in my key in paper space. Then if I have another drawing on bedroom 2, I can draw a rectangle around bedroom 2 and a new rectangle will be applied to the key plan block in my key in paper space.
I know this can be done by just drawing the boundaries of the rooms then scaling them down to match the key plan etc but this is a very large development so automating the process would be really helpful.
Thanks!

That would be you doing all the rectangles drawing: is your "keyplan" not the same objects as the ones you re working on? If yes, you draw rectangles on layers that are "vpfrozen" in the the viewport you do not want them to show up in, but not so in the viewport that shows the overall plan as the "keyplan".

So instead of using a block I could use another much smaller viewport in paperspace with only one layer switched on, showing the outline of the house and the rectangle around the bedroom? But then I'd need to have each rectangle for each bedroom on a separate layer - I was hoping there would be a solution which takes the rectangle in modelspace and applies it to my existing block in paperspace in the appropriate position...
I'll keep thinking, thanks for your reply!

OK, I thought I'd seen someone do something similar using VBAs but they are far beyond my capabilities so like you said, I'll go with the 'pre-planning' angle!
Thanks
