Problem with Model Space to Paper Space

Thanks for taking time to look at my post and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me a step by step guide to my problem. I am drawing a several mile stretch of roadway in Model space at a 1:50 scale, I now need to break the Model Space into Paper Space in multiple sheets in Sequence so each sheet goes to the next, etc. thru the whole project so when I am done, I have all of my drawing in Model Space now corresponding sheet by sheet in Paper space to print on 11x17. Sorry for this question but this is my first large project that I need to break up and I cannot find anything that explains this process.

First of all, your model space scale should be 1:1 (full scale).

Basically, each Layout will have a page setup based on paper size and other printing parameters and a viewport open to the model, sized and scaled to show the segment of the model for that sheet.

You want to create 'tiles' where each tile displays a portion of the road on a layout tab at 1:50 scale. You also want each tile to go sequentially from layout-to-layout so layout tab #1 displays the beginning of the road and the last layout tab displays the end of the road. Is this correct?

If yes, then do this:

  1. Go to layout 1. Make the viewport scale 1:50. Next, pan to the beginning of the road while maintaining 1:50 scale. Center the beginning portion in the viewport so it looks nice. Deactivate the viewport. Lock the VP.
  2. Using rectangle command, draw a rectangle directly on top of your viewport.
  3. Next, invoke CHSPACE command. Your Command Line will display SELECT OBJECTS.
  4. Your cursor will now be a small square. Using your square cursor, click directly on the rectangle that you just drew, then press ENTER.
  5. Your rectangle will jump into modelspace in the correct location and at the correct scale.
  6. Verify by going to your modelspace to view the rectangle which has jumped from paperspace to modelspace. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for layout 2, layout 3, layout 4, etc. etc. etc. The individual layouts will progress sequentially down the road until you reach the end of the road.

If you have access AutoCad Map 3D in addition to Vanilla AutoCad, then you should use a Map Book. Vanilla AutoCad isn't an efficient program to do what you want. You can watch Jerry Bartels video which demonstrates how it works and how to create it. Click >>HERE<<  to watch.

Go to paperspace, make a series of viewports, each viewport should fit inside of a 11x17 sheet

Zoom your first viewport to 1:50 scale

Then use the command VPSYNC to sync the rest of your viewports to lineup the road

Copy each viewport in to your layout and make a sheet out of it.

Hi there,

When I click on the Layout in Base icon and than From Model Space, after about 30 seconds, the move option is automatically activated and asks me to select an object. it should be noted that it worked without any problems in previous versions. right now i used 2024 Autocad Architecture.

Best regards

@n.fard18ex So in earlier versions, after the VIEWBASE is created in the layout, "move" is activated for placement.

So your issue may simply be your video card in 2024 is failing to display what you drew in modelspace only, otherwise the command continues as designed to create other views like nothing went wrong.

In your ACA2024 set DFXDX12 to zero, restart the program, and see if your graphics card behaves any better.

if that does not help, start GRAPHICSCONFIG command then turn off hardware acceleration then try again.

FWIW it is considered very premature to commit to a brand new AutoCAD year version so early on after release by those of us who've use AutoCAD versions for some time now: I suggest you roll back to ACA2023 then fully update that 2023 version if this problem continues for you in ACA2024.

Thank you for your reply. another thing I noticed is that when you click on the Bace and then From Model Space, you see this Error(Inventor Server Failed to load). then I tried to open the project that I made with ACA2023 and tried to use it in ACA2024 and used the Projected option and I saw this message( Unable to perform the requested action. This drawing was last edited with model documentation in newer version of AutoCAD). I think that there is probably a mistake in the new VR. anyway, thanks again.
