Problem with graphics acceleration

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I am using a laptop which has an Intel HD graphics 5500 card and a NVIDIA Geforce 820M card. My AutoCAD is currently running on the Intel graphics card. Recently, my AutoCAD is unable to run on graphics acceleration. I am not sure why this is happening, but I hope someone has a solution to this problem

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to follow the procedure in the link, but I am unable to find adaptive degradation dialog box.

I have attached a screenshot of my tuner log for more clarification

Hello,

Which Version of Autocad are you using?

Go to Options (op) > System > check if this is ticked.

Turn on the Hardware accelaration from that menu.

If its is not turning on then

Command : OP> Enter> System > Turn on auto update as shown in the above post.

Is your Graphics driver up to date.

Check for the latest graphics drivers for NVIDIA

If still not working then try resetting the Autocad settings to default.

Hi,

Please go through this article

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCA...

Issue:

On a system with integrated graphics (mostly laptops), your AutoCAD-based product uses the integrated graphics adapter instead of the advanced or discrete graphics card. (Autocad-2016)

Causes:

The technology for the dual video configuration is called "Optimus" by NVIDIA and "Enduro" or "Dynamic Switchable Graphics" by AMD. The problem occurs because the switching software chooses the wrong GPU for AutoCAD.

Solution:

To avoid this behaviour in AutoCAD 2016, apply Hotfix 4 that can be downloaded from the following link.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/accumulated-hotfix-4...

Hi Vinay,

I have downloaded the hotfix, and now the software is running on Nvidia GeForce 820M. I have downloaded the latest driver from the Nvidia website, but AutoCAD still shows the same problem. I have added a screenshot of the problem.

Hi saiabhishek,

Turn off your hardware acceleration. And check whether autocad is working fine?

Then make sure your auto update graphics driver is checked on in options.

Close and restart Autocad and check for any recent updates.

After the updates  you can turn on the Hardware accelaration after that.

Hi,

AutoCAD works fine without the graphics acceleration. Then I ticked auto update graphics driver, then I reset AutoCAD to its default settings. But, now I am not sure on how to check if there are updates. Also, do you know which is better Intel HD graphics 5500 or Nvidia GeForce 820M?

Hi,

This looks like a memory (hardware) defect.

Hi @Anonymous,

This does indeed look like a hardware issue of some sort. But, to follow through this thread, is DirectX being utilized when you look at the GRAPHICSCONFIG window?  If so, which version?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi @john.vellek,

Yes, it is being utilized. AutoCAD is using DirectX11, but my computer shows that my computer runs on DirectX12. And if it is a hardware issue how do I fix it?

Hi,

>> And if it is a hardware issue how do I fix it?

Change the hardware ...

But to make sure you first can run some stress tests for both of your graphic cards, start with the

DXDIAG (from C:\Windows\System32)

and watch the reports as well as the screen while it runs some test on the display.

If that succeeds I would search in www for tools which tests system memory as well as memory on your graphic cards.
