Plot area when publishing to PDF

Hi all,

When creating a page setup, you get to choose the "plot Area" like so:Untitled.png

However, when publishing to pdf with no assigned page setups, the default behavior seems to be to plot to Extents. I would like to change the default behavior so that publishing to PDF only plots the layout area, as I tend to move unneeded Paperspace annotations out of view.

is there any way to change the plot area when publishing to PDF? The DWG to PDF.pc3 file only seems to control line overwriting and other rendering settings so I don't know where to look for.

No problems.
1. First you need to find the title blocks.
2. Then specify the print area with a window for each title block.
3. Save the settings for each layout.

All this can be done automatically for all layouts -

This is just what you need.
You have different title blocks.
You want the correct paper size (PDF) to be automatically set
And print the desired area in the drawing.
This is all done automatically.

Give an example of your .dwg file.

I just want to know if there's a way to modify the plot area when publishing to PDF (either when AutoPublishing or when using the publish command, or when publishing to PDF through a sheet set.)

My problem is simple: I have moved a Paperspace table out of the paperspace area (the white background representing the paper) in one of my layouts, and now, i can't simply publish to PDF because, if I do so, the plot area is shifted on that particular layout as a result of it defaulting to an Extents plot area.

I know I could use a page setup, but I just wanted to know: is there was a way to modify the default plot area setting when publishing, much like how we can modify it in a page setup (see Original post's first picture).

Hope that cleared things up.

Why don't you use page set-ups? You just might find it solves this issue.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Because I am curious to see if publishing's settings can be modified.

Page set-ups are used to modify publish settings.

No.

Actually the answer is yes. Named page set-ups.

After a bit of testing here's what I found:

Selecting publish to PDF only tells AutoCAD to use the DWG to PDF.pc3 plotter. At first I thought there was  a variable assigned to "Publish to PDF" somewhere telling AutoCAD to default to a specific plot area but as it turns out, when publishing with no assigned page setups, the plot area is controlled by each layout's indivual page setup (the ones whose names are prefixed and suffixed with asterisk symbols).

Therefore, I can hit "Apply to layout" button after setting the plot area to Layout

Capture.PNG

And the PDF turns out fine whichever way I publish it. I could also modify our company's DWT file accordignly so that the plot area is more suitable. I know this thread might make me sound a bit picky, but why would the "publish to PDF" option exist if you couldnt control the plot Area? That would render features like AutoPublish completely useless, as they can't use page setups. Guess it makes sense now.

Hope I haven't been too vague, sorry for the confusion, my understanding was a bit off. And thanks for the input.
