I am inviting all the AutoCAD Community Forum members to help me. As an Autodesk specialist I participate in the community to help customers work through technical issues, learn new features, and to become more efficient and productive in creating the things they make and design.
I want to thank all of you that help answer questions for me and for other Community members: Alfred, Imad, Kent, Lee, Blaine, Ed, Rob, Joe, Randall, Sebastian, Nick, Chris, Dean, Jimmy, David, and all the rest that I haven’t mentioned. I learn from you all every day and feel honored to participate in the community alongside of you.
Now, the Help part….
I would like to ask everyone in this community to follow through on threads (don't ask a question or get an answer and then walk away), mark solutions as Accepted because this helps all of us find answers faster, and reward contributors with Likes.
If you are asking a question, please provide the following if applicable:
- AutoCAD version (type ABOUT at the AutoCAD command line)
This helps show that your product is patched and up to date. If it isn’t, use the Autodesk Desktop App or go to your Account page to find updates.
The version number shows that the application is designed to run on the operating system you have installed. System Requirements can be found here.
- Windows version (type WINVER at the Windows command line)
This will give the build version of your operating system and perhaps will identify if additional updates need to be applied.
- Graphics card make and model and driver version and include a screen capture of the GRAPHICSCONFIG window.
AutoCAD relies on the graphics card heavily so making sure this is configured properly can be very helpful. The graphicsconfig window will show that the graphics card and DirectX is being utilized.
Certified drivers can be found here but it is also worth considering a visit to your computer manufacturer’s site or go to AMD, Nvidia, or Intel to see if they have drivers that are worth investigating.
Please provide the make and model of your printer along with the exact driver version. If you are going to share a drawing on a post, please include the plot style and your plot settings (these can be saved in a named Page Setup)
If you have a crash and have the opportunity to submit a CER Report, please do so and put the report number in your post. This helps to trackdown the exact cause of the crash. Note, CER report submissions will never result in you getting an email from support.
If there are specific steps that lead to an issue, try to document them accurately in your post. Include some pictures, screen captures (the Windows Snipping Tool works great for this) and embed them in your post from the editor bar.
A Screencast video can also be attached to your post .
- Attaching files to your post.
It is always helpful to share drawings that exhibit your issue or question. To attach files, use the Community Forum web page in a browser (don't use email with attachments). If the files are reluctant to attach, please put them in a ZIP file and attach that to your post.
Have FUN and keep collaborating ...and thanks for the HELP!
