PDF/Image as OLE Not Showing Up in Final Plot

I have been having issues for a while with this for a while.  I insert OLE objects into the drawing, preview it in the plot window (everything is fine, OLEs show in preview) but when I generate the final PDF, it is blank.  I have even sent the print directly to printers and plotters and they come out blank as well.

Some of our clients require us to embed PDFs or Images into our drawings as OLE objects so there are no reference files attached to the drawings.  I have literally read almost every solution that comes up either on Autodesk Discussion Forums or Google searches for this issue.  And nothing has worked.  Below is a short list of things I have tried.  As I said...I have tried literally everything suggested online that I could find about this.

  • Plotted using PDF Xchange and DWG to PDF
  • Plotted directly to plotters
  • Placing objects in both Model Space and Paper Space.
  • Objects inserted on Layer 0
  • Objects inserted on Other layer that are not Defpoints.
  • Changed every possible setting in both plotters.
  • Change various AutoCAD system variables.

The thing that makes me think it's a computer/system issue over a software issue is that I have co-workers that can insert both PDFs and Images as OLEs and they plot just fine.  Yet some of my co-workers have the same issue as me.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.  It's only adding grey hairs to my head that is already full of them.  Thanks

Another issue I have is when I zoom in and out, or use my mouse to scroll zoom, the OLEs change and almost zooms in or out as well, if that makes sense.

What is your AutoCAD version? are you using the same version and driver versions as everyone else in your office? Might ask your IT to make you an equal 🙂

For the second item, OPTIONS command/Display Tab/Display performance section, what do you have checked (or not) for OLE?
And on the PLOT tab, what do you have checked (or not) for OLE?
Do these match your coworkers' settings?

We are all running Civil 3D 2016.  As for updating drivers by our IT group, that is like pulling teeth.

I checked all the OLE settings you suggested in your post and I adjusted them in multiple ways.  I get the same results.

Just tested something...I turned on OLEFRAME so it plots.  When I create a PDF or plot directly to a printer, the box (frame) of the OLE shows up.  So the OLE is coming thru just the actual image is not showing in the plot.

There is no relationship between the frame and the content: were you able to find out what differences you and the others have? It's something, somewhere.

I have confirmed all settings in all printer drivers and AutoCAD System variables are the same between 3 other co-workers who can plot OLEs to PDF using the same drawing and nothing is different between my system and theirs.

I just asked 4 other individuals in our office to plot a test drawing with OLEs...everyone's final prints show the OLEs in the PDF except me.  So I'm thinking it's a system issue and not a AutoCAD issue.

I've even tried plotting in plain generic AutoCAD 2014 and 2015...same result.

Ask your IT to reimage your PC to be identical to all the others, if giving you a new Windows Log-in to test and confirm this still exists as a problem is not a fix.
