PDF Attach

Hello, after uploading a pdf into my ac 16 drawing the image is locked. I can't find the tool to unlock so I can use the drawing!

Any solutions?

Hi,

>> the image is locked

What exactly means it is locked? Can't you move it or change any of the PDF-attachment properties or what makes it locked for you?

Hi Alfred,

When I bring in a pdf attachment into my autocad 16 model space, it has a frame around the pdf. I can adjust the scale, I can move it around, but the drawing is locked. It shows up and disappears like a locked function. Every Layer is locked. I cant draw/ work on the pdf after attached.

Hi,

sorry to bother you with questions, I just don't understand it.

>> but the drawing is locked

With "drawing" you mean the DWG file you have currently open or with "drawing" you mean the content of the PDF?

>> It shows up and disappears like a locked function.

What "lock-function" let something disappear in AutoCAD?

When you lock a CAD-layer the content of the layer does not disappear.

When you lock a view of a viewport, the viewport and it's content does not disappear

...and that are the only two options of "lock" in AutoCAD I'm aware of.

>> Every Layer is locked

Can you show a screenshot where we can see what is locked. Back to the AutoCAD layer ... I have not heard about a defect which set all CAD-layers to Lock = ON after command PDFATTACH.

>> I cant draw/ work on the pdf after attached.

Just to make sure: do you think that you can modify the contents of the PDF and you are speaking about PDF-layers?

If so then sorry no, an attachment is a referenced file that can be displayed, but not modified.

Hello Alfred,

No I have had no luck unlocking these PDF Attachments. I believe it could be a locked viewport. I am not sure. Here is the screenshot.

Thanks,

John

As you can see, There is a highlighted box around the PDF I wish to make changes on. I hover over it and it lights up light blue and a little blue dot appears bottom left corner.. It is Locked! I cannot get the frame to go away!

here is how to capture a screenshot WITHOUT pasting it into a potentially dangerous MSWord document so everyone can take a peak at your attachments http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-snipping-tool-capture-screen-shots

What are PDFRAME and FRAME variables set to?
What layer is the pdf on and is it locked too?

Hi,

thank you for the screenshot, but I don't see what you mean by "is locked"

>> There is a highlighted box around the PDF I wish to make changes on

As I mentioned previously, the content of the PDF can't be changed, what exactly do you like to change? Just the "box around the PDF" or the content of the PDF?

How come when I download trial versions of different converter programs they work fine?
Why can't Auto Cad Make changes? Also it seems to work sometimes when I copy PDF Files and drop them into model space they are changeable?

Hi,

>> Why can't Auto Cad Make changes?

Changes to what, that is not answered yet.

AutoCAD is a CAD program and can modify geometry created by AutoCAD, but importing a PDF does not create CAD-objects (for now), that is just like a raster image a "silly none-structured background image", nothing more or less.

If you need to modify PDF-content you need a PDF editor software or software that can import the PDF to create text and images. But whatever is in the PDF is nothing prepared to be CAD-like. Asking why AutoCAD can't modify PDF content is comparable to ask why Photoshop can't work with CAD-dimension objects. ... it's just not the correct software for that job.

Yes I want to make changer to the document. I draw dwg covert to a pdf. Then after review I'd like to make changes. I have to go back to dwg and make changes, convert back to pdf and re insert the page into the set and delete the first one. Seems like the long way around.

An interesting method to check PDF output for sure 🙂

Simply reload the PDF in the Reference Manager after you replace the source file, if you are indeed replacing the source PDF file after every change. Know how to do that?

Look up PDFOSNAP in HELP in LT: ensure UOSNAP is not overriding it too.
