Paper space scale, text size, and dimension size

Hi,
I would like to know a “standard” or procedure for setting up an architectural type drawing for printing in paper space.

Here are some parameters that I have questions about. Suppose that I have an architectal drawing in model space at a 1:1 scale.

How do I set up text size, dimensions size and scale to properly view my drawing view port in paper space.

Will I need to make changes to scales if I change my paper size? What if I want to change around the view ports and therefore change the scales— will I have to change my dimension sizes?

How do I set this up?
Chris

You can do all of those things by making annotative dimension and text styles. A piece of text that is annotative has the scales applied right to the object, so if you change a viewport it will know what to change too. You can add the scales manually (it adds the current scale at creation) or you can Annoautoscale button on the bottom tool bar. What that does when checked is if you change the scale it automatically adds the annoscale to all annotative objects that are affected.

Here is also a good thread explaining annotative that david helped me with a while back. It's a pretty good overview when just starting out with annotative as it can be a bit confusing at first.

You have three basic ways of doing this

1. Using standard dimensions in Model Space dimension your objects. The size of dimensions you choose depends on size scale your view port will be. for this you will need to use a scale factor chart like this one https://www.archtoolbox.com/representation/cad/scalefactor.html (if you need help setting up dimensions i have a file i can send you)

2. is to use annotative dimensions in model space. these are a bit more tricky to set up but once its done your dimension will automatically change size as the view port scale changes. typed words cannot explain this too well (at least i cant) so i suggest watching a quick you tube video on Annotative Dimensions in Autocad.

3. is to dimension in paper space ( this i don't recommend) but you basically set your dimstyle to the desired text height and scale factor of one and just start dimensioning (these also can be annotative if desired)
