Owners Personal Information Hidden in DWG...please help

Hi Community,

I have a question about AutoCad. I am not familiar with it and would appreciate assistance in resolving this issue.

I have an existing drawing of the house that was done by an architect. When I got the printed paper format, my personal information was on it. The plans show the Project Tax Map, Owners/Contact Info, and Architect/Contact.

When I opened the DWG files I received from the architect, my personal information was not visible. In addition, the architect logos and personal information are not visible. The text appears to be hidden.

Can someone help find where my personal information is stored in the file?

I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Azuka

I typed option just like you said.

I did see that Display Layout and Model were checked.

What do I do next?

Either way is fine - in the drawings now look at those layouts to see if they have the missing information.

When I click the Layout, it is blank.

When I click the model, I see the plans.

By the way, what is this:

That is the System Variable Monitor. It just lets you know if there has been a setting change. Not germane to this issue.

"When I try to open the second file, it says that there are references files missing. I opened the Reference Manager and see two files, but they are were not attached to the DWG."
Is the image you attached the file that has missing references? Often a titleblock is attached as a reference file. Think of a reference file as a picture of another file - if the source changes, your picture changes. Very handy for titleblocks.

Thanks for your clarification.

No. This particular file does not have any missing references.

If you look at page 1 of this thread, I did attach a screen capture of the File Reference Palette. When I did enable Layout, I was able to see Model and Layout at the lower left screen. When I clicked model, I see the plans, but when I clicked the layout, it is blank. There is nothing there.

No other files show up in the File Reference palette for this particular DWG.

I'd be willing to bet a dollar that the Architect did not send you the entire file from your print - just a subset. It's just not there.

Was the original paper plot bearing your personal information printed by you or provided by the architect?

Hi @Anonymous,

You sent me your files and I took a look at the Xref manager. It indicated that there were two PNG (image) files that had been attached (referenced in your file).  The architect had not sent those files to you so you could not see them appear in your file.

The simplest way to remove the link to the data is to select the two Xref PNG files in the xref manager and then rt-click. Select Detach and the links should no longer remain in your file.

Actually, my issue is not solved. I thought it was.

Is there any reason that in AutoCad, the Layout tab is blank? Is there a way to have the plans show up in Layout?

I can see the plan in the Model tab, but when I go to the Layout tab, it is blank.

The architect created the plan. The architect printed the plan. The information is on the original paper the architect printed. All I received from the architect is a printed paper (not plot), and the AutoCad files.

My issue is that when I open the file, the layout which should show you the plans is empty.

Do you know why this is happening?

I just want to remove my personal information. How do I do that?

Hi,

>> I just want to remove my personal information.

I read now through the thread and see that there might be a lot of reasons why you don't get the information visible, either it's knowledge to get it shown or it's not in the drawing.

I was asking myself about "why is that so important to see this information in the file if the knowledge about AutoCAD does not exist to modify anything in the dwg-file", but reading "to remove my personal information" sounds really strange. What reason can exist that someone don't like to see his own name on a plot?

You might then upload the dwg-file so we can look into it.

Good morning NWAEGO, I suspect that the reason your layouts are empty is that layouts are printer specific. You can recreate them by going to the layout tab, then from the top menu file> page setup manager>modify> printer/plotter and select your printer. You can then, in that dialog box, select things like paper size, orientation ( landscape/portrait ) plot style ( I use monochrome.ctb to print all black ) and other options. After selecting your printer the layout will display the correct printable area. You will now need to create one or more viewports. go to ,from the top menu, view> viewports> 1viewport and then when it drops you back into the layout you will left click at the first corner of your viewport and then the opposite corner. You should now see a viewport window showing everything in your model space. if you now double click in the viewport area it will open and you can zoom and pan it until you are seeing the parts of the drawing you want in the layout at the size you want. you can have multiple viewports in one layout of different scales for example to view a detail in close-up. If your printer is not large enough for your needs you might try finding a local print shop with the appropriate sized printer/plotter and setup it up on your computer and create layouts for it. you can create as many layouts as you need by going from the top menu insert> layout, then either type in the name of the new layout or hitting enter for no name. then you will need to define it as indicated above. There can be a lot involved in creating a fully integrated and effective layout or it can be as simple as what I outlined above. I hope this can help you to print your own documents.
