Owners Personal Information Hidden in DWG...please help

Hi Community,

I have a question about AutoCad. I am not familiar with it and would appreciate assistance in resolving this issue.

I have an existing drawing of the house that was done by an architect. When I got the printed paper format, my personal information was on it. The plans show the Project Tax Map, Owners/Contact Info, and Architect/Contact.

When I opened the DWG files I received from the architect, my personal information was not visible. In addition, the architect logos and personal information are not visible. The text appears to be hidden.

Can someone help find where my personal information is stored in the file?

I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Azuka

First try turning and thawing all layers.  Report back if that doesn't work.

How do you turn on all the layers?

Can you please give specific instructions?

If I am missing the xref, does that mean that my personal information is not on the dwg file?

How do I know if xref is attached?

I got the Reference Manager to show up. All I see is 1 file and it say it is already opened. There is an asteric at the end of the file.

The screen below shows the number 2 with a yellow thing next to it. There is also a dropdown arrow below.

I do NOT have a dropdown on mine. There are no files on mine.

I will take a screen capture of my screen.

That can be in one Layer command:

-LA [command alias for the command-line rather than dialog-box version of the LAYER command]

thaw

* [= all Layers]

on

*

[one last Enter to end the Layer command]

or, instead of a Layer command explicitly, use the shortcut commands that do those same things:

LAYTHW

LAYON

and if what you want is on a Layer that was frozen, you may need to also:

REGEN

This is what my screen looks like when I type the xref. As you can see, there is no other file attached. There is no dropdown.

When I clicked the plan original, under the details box, it says the file is current.

I did not create the auto cad file. I do not know how to use it, but I am having a fast course on it.

I used the command below to thaw and open layers.

All layers are thawed.

All layers are on.

I still do not see my contact information.

Do you think it is attached?

Pardon if this is TOO basic a question - but are you familiar with LAYOUTS in AutoCAD? This is typically where we put title block information such as designer, developer, etc. that you seem to be missing:

I am not familiar. I am new to AutoCad.

I  followed your image, and I am in the home tab.

Can you please provide some further instructions?

If all LAYERs are thawed and on, and the drawing has been REGENerated, and if you pick in each of those tabs along the bottom, and ZOOM Extents in each, and you don't see that information in any of them, then it was surely in some external reference file that wasn't included when they sent you the drawing.  It's common practice for Architects to remove their name/address/etc. information when sending people .DWG files, so that they cannot be held responsible for changes others may make.

What VERSION of AutoCAD are you using? Also, please post a screen capture of your entire AutoCAD screen here so we can see if your tabs are enabled.

I have followed all commands. Layerthaw, Layer ON, Regen, and Zoom and I do not see anything.

I received two files.

The first file I opened did not have reference files (see the screen picture I attached). It appears to be referencing itself.

When I try to open the second file, it says that there are references files missing. I opened the Reference Manager and see two files, but they are were not attached to the DWG.

Can someone please tell me about the layout block? I understand that is where you put project information, developer, etc. How do I get to it?

Thanks again for all your help.

The LAYOUT tabs are at the lower left corner of your screen. If you do not see them, then they may be turned off. If that is the case then go to OPTIONS-DISPLAY TAB- LAYOUT ELEMENTS to make sure you have checked Display Layout and Model Tabs
