Osnap Intersection on Xref and hatches

Anyone having issues with the intersection osnap in hatch patterns when osoptions is set to 0? Apparent intersection works fine but the cursor will not pick up the single intersection point of a hatch...worked fine in 2014.not anymore on 2015 and 2016! Autodesk should return the settings of intersection osnap like 2010...2014.

Do you have it set to IGNORE HATCH OBJECTS.

At the command line type OPTIONS

Now choose the DRAFTING tab. At the bottom left it should say IGNORE HATCH OBJECTS. Is that ticked? If so untick it

Is your 2016 fully patched, I have 2016 and the regular intersection is working on hatch.

@h_s_walker's suggestion about the "Ignore Hatch Objects" option won't be the solution if OSOPTIONS is already set to 0 -- that setting has it operate on Hatch objects.  [When you pick on Ignore Hatch Objects in Options, it sets the 1 bit in the OSOPTIONS System Variable.]  But I don't have any other ideas about what the problem may be....

My AutoCAD fully patched and updated with sp1. as for this setting, it was already made, the problem is still the same. I will give more details on that, when I xref my reflected ceiling patterns(60x60 net hatch) to main plan, then trying to insert a spot light block in the middle using "Mid point between 2points", trying to catch the intersection of hatch pattern lines mission impossible. @Kent1Cooper, you are right, I have made all required settings and got no result.

Again, I have no idea what is causing your problem, but....  What I typically do in a situation like that is faster than using M2P Osnap, anyway:  Set SNAP to 6, and with the SNAPBASE System Variable matching the grid [and SNAPANG if you have any grid that's not orthogonally oriented], you can plant things in the middle of panels, or at various other logical locations, very easily without using Osnap at all.  This is especially helpful if you work in large-enough scales to use a pattern that shows the width of the grid members, in which case there's nothing at the actually grid intersection points to Osnap to, but positional Snap will land you right on them.  I have a routine to set SNAPBASE to the origin from which a selected Hatch pattern was generated, if you're interested.

Did you manage to resolve this issue? I am experiencing exactly the same issue under AutoCAD 2016 SP1 and I have OSOPTIONS set to 6. I can snap to hatches which are within the current drawing but unable to do so on hatches which are Externally References in. This makes my life very difficult as I have multiple services which need to align to a 600x600 ceiling grid and I want to avoid copying the grid into each DWG. Not sure if this helps but I can get the first point of an apparent intersection to find the grid but the second point does not appear. Any suggestions?

Hi,

i don't know if it can fix it ... but i read that when OSOPTIONS = 0  a REGEN is required for snapping to hatch intersections after changing to this setting.

I have tried changing OSOPTIONS to 0 and performing a REGEN but to no avail. After some testing this appears to be a bug because I can snap to the End of Hatch Lines and the Mid Point too. Unfortunately I am unable to use Intersection or Apparent Intersection but now I know I can use Mid Points I can work with that.

Hi @Anonymous,

Is it possible to attach a couple of drawings that have this osnap issue? I would like to see if I can get you a solution.

Morning John, Apologies for the delay. Attached is a ZIP file containing two DWG files. If I open the "Main Drawing.dwg" I am unable to snap to the Ceiling Grid hatch using the Intersection Object Snap. I am running AutoCAD 2016 (Full not LT) SP1. I would certainly be interested to see if you have the same results. I can confirm I can snap to the Mid Point and End Points without issue and the first point of the Intersect Snap detects the Hatch however the second point does not appear to see the Hatch any longer.

Hi Paul,

I don't see your attachment here. If you like you can email it to me directly and I will add it to your post so others can see it as well.

Hi Paul,

I am able to snap to the hatch intersections in your Xref file by unlocking layer 0 in the master file and then setting your OSOPTIONS to 6. Follow this by a regenall and I think you will be good to go!

Hi John, no such luck for me I'm afraid. I have no layers on either drawing locked and still the problem persists. I have tested on a colleagues computer running the same version and service pack and the same issue is exhibited. This is a minor inconvenience for me but using the other Object Snaps I am able to continue my work without too much hassle so the issue is no longer a problem for me. Thanks for your assistance.
