Online maps using geolocation

Online maps using geolocation

I have a drawing of a highway alignment, I wanted to see this on map, so I converted this file to KMZ and opened it on Google earth and it worked fine, my alignment was correctly placed, Then I thought to bring some changes to the alignment by inserting online map to Autocad, I followed all the steps and the map came to Autocad, but I realised that my alignment has shifted a bit, I tried different GIS systems, but none helped, Why does the same drawing showing differently in google earth and Autocad online map ?

Hi Amit,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
More details please. How much shift? What Coordinate System? Are you using Civil/Map 3D? What version?

I am using AutoCad 2017, Using UTM coordinate system. The shift is around 2
meters.

Does it have to anything to do with Google Earth and Bing Maps(Microsoft ) compatibility ?

Amit,
"The shift is around 2 meters."
2 meters is really not much for "live" aerial services like Bing and Google. I've seen far worse. If you'd like to shift Bing, try >>>This<<<.

My total drawing of road alignment is around 20 kms, Now I am able to fix the starting point but the whole alignment does not align well, ( the same drawing is fitting exactly when its kmz file is opened in Google Earth).

Why it is good in Google earth and not in Autocad map ( as a designer which one should I follow ? )

My initial 3 kms are same in Google Earth and Bing maps (Autocad) but then
the shift starts.

Amit,
A couple of screen shots please to show the difference. Or post drawing and KMZ.

I am attaching the DWG file, the KMZ file is not supported in the Attachment options. I would be grateful to you if you can convert it to KMZ and check that in GE ( I have used Global mapper software for Converting DWG to KMZ) and check this DWG in Autocad maps. ( Rotary is the start of the drawing and go till the last point, you will notice the shift from the midway alignment in Autocad maps,  but no such thing in GE.

Thanking you in Advance.

Amit,
Your drawing didn't have an assigned coordinate system and uses feet units, not meters. I assigned a UTM84-45N Coordinate System and it seems to be the right place. I haven't been able to export a KML/KMZ yet, but I'll keep trying.

How to assign the coordinate system in AutoCad?

I do not have Civil 3D.

I was also assigning the same coordinate system while setting geolocation in from map option.

(Did my drawing fitted well throughout, i mean alignment lines did  not come over existing buildings anywhere?)

sharing the KMZ file, Pl go through it, you will notice that initially both on GE and Autocad maps both are showing the same alignment, but after some distance, GE maps show alignment along the existing road (i.e. the survey data), but in Autocad maps, it shows the alignment shifted towards left and not following the survey data.

Amit,
I don't know if I'll be much help. My 2018 Civil 3D won't import a KMZ. And QGIS won't import your KMZ, so I can't turn it into a Shapefile. Your Proposed ROW linework looks OK when I assign UTM84-45N to your drawing. I don't have Vanilla AutoCAD to test further. Maybe someone will come up with something.

Can you please share the DWG file which you have georeferenced from civil 3D, that would be a great help.
