Object Snap keeps turning off

Anonymous
Not applicable

I just downloaded AutoCad 2014 2 weeks ago, and every time that I enter into Autocad to open a drawing, and when I hit "F3" which should just turn on my previously selected object snaps, I'm taken to the screen where I have to manually select my osnaps again. It's as if I didn't have any selected to begin with. I had AutoCad at my previous work and this never happended. It was 2012 version, but the osnaps would save.

The same problem happens when I'm in a drawing (with the osnaps that I want) and then I open a number drawing. I once again have to go in as if I hadn't selected any object snaps. There has got to be a setting that I need to select that will save my object snaps.

You have a startup or add-on that is turning off osnaps for you: the clue is it only happens when you open a drawing. Look in your ACADDOC.LSP file or unload add-ons.

All AutoCAD versions work the same way. just like your 2012.

Hi,

please describe what your situation is and which version and service pack of software you are working with.

A good try at the start: does the same happen when you login with a different Windows user account?

Greetings
I am an employee of a company and we use REBAR base on AUTOCAD. As object
snapping is a major requirement we are having that issue. And we use
AUTOCAD 13 version. If u solve us this issue it aould be a great help for
our team.

Thanks and regards

Hi,

>> we use REBAR base on AUTOCAD

Please ask the vendor of that add on if this app is turning object snap off. I don't know that app.

>> we use AUTOCAD 13 version

13 or 2013?

Please let us know when the object snap is disabled.

E.g. when you activate ENDpoint as object snap, then you start command _LINE ... is the object snap now active or not?

Hi,

Do you mean they don't give you support?

>> And Initially i turned on osnap and then placed _LINE command still

>> i am in a situation to turn on F3 again

Can you please show a screencast (>>>free to download<<<), make sure we can see the command line and then please follow these steps by just using the command-line:

OSMODE<ENTER>

1<ENTER>

_LINE<ENTER>

0,0<ENTER>

1,1<ENTER>

<ENTER>

OSMODE<ENTER>

so we can see if the variable was changed (or which value it has then just by starting the line command.

Hi @Anonymous

Could you confirm whether it is from AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical ?

Which version you are going to do this action ?

Because POWERSNAP option is available only on AutoCAD Mechanical I think so.

Actually in your previous reply you have asked me whether i should turn off
F3 completely but my actual question was "How to keep F3 always on?".

Like F3 you can also click the symbol.

Check the snaps you want and be sure it stays on.

Like this you are able to see it when any command is overriding the settingSnap1.JPGSnap2.JPG.

Hi @Anonymous

As I understood your question, you wants to turn off the snap key F3 always,

If yes, please follow the steps,

1. Go to the below mentioned location in your computer. [ C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD {version} \Support\en-us ]

2. Open the lisp file ( acad {version} doc.lsp ) via Note pad.

3. Add this line into the last line. (setvar 'osmode 16384) [need an example, please see the attached image]

4. Save and close it.

5. Open the AutoCAD now, the F3 should be turned off always whenever you open any of the files.

Kindly check and let me know if there is any.

If my post has helps you, please select Accept as Solution.

I would suggest adding the period prefix to the LINE command for this trial:

_.LINE

If the REBAR overlay has Undefined  the LINE command and made its own new definition of it, and if that is what is turning off Osnap, this will call for the native command instead of the different definition.  If when you do it this way, Osnap is not  turned off, then the REBAR thing is what's turning it off.  If that's the cause, you would need to modify its code to remove that, or get a modified version from the supplier, or find an option in it for whether it turns Osnap off, or something.
