Non planar face

I want to offset faces of the 3 marked small surfaces.

It says it can't extrude non-planar faces.

I think i made them planar, can they become non-planar?

How to test if a face is non-planar?

Now i see there are other mistakes in this part.

I think the "teeth" aren't perpendicular

You can SLICE a little the 3 teeth with the 3 points option, for instance.

Doing so, you'll get planar faces for sure.

You can use the command _SOLIDEDIT for this.

Select the >face editing option and then you can use either Extrude, Move or Offset to do what you want. There is no need for your face to be co-planar when you use this command.

I use SOLIDEDIT with the offset option, but it only offsets outwards, i mean i can only increase the volume of the solid, while i want to decrease.

I want to offset the 3 faces of the teeth to the origin of the UCS. i mark the distance between this origin and the edge of the tooth and it offsets outwards. now i try again but reverse the order of selecting the points: first the edge then the origin, but the result is the same, offsets outwards.

I used the Move option and it works, it moves the faces inwards to the origin.

There is a _move option in solidedit. Didn't you try it ? Offsetting or extruding may accept negative values but has its own direction ; perpendicular.

How can i give a negative value to the Offset option if i pick 2 points?

As i said, i tried with both ways to pick the same 2 points.

If you can't do it with the keyboard and that you really need to pick 2 points you can paste this expression in the command line :

(-(distance (getpoint)(getpoint)))

It will send a real number giving the negative distance between 2 points.
