New User… model and paper space

I’m a new user in AutoCad (I had used it briefly about 20 years ago and have not touched the program since).  I’m having difficulty bringing up new drawings from model space to paper space.  I have tried changing the following settings:

LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, and MSLTSCALE followed by REGENALL without any change.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
Start by typing LAYOUTWIZARD in the command line. It brings up a nice wizard that steps you through creating Layouts.

What do you mean by "bringing up new drawings"?

How familiar are you with the concept of Paper Space?

My two initial guesses would be makeing sure you have the model zoomed into the correct place. Double click inside your viewport and then zoom or pan to your geometry.

If that is not your problem, my next guess would be; do you actually have viewports on your paperspace?

use the VIEWPORT command to draw a new viewport.

@bcmcdonaldnh

Have you already drawn objects in modelspace? Have you created a viewport on the 'white sheet' in Paperspace? If you don't create a viewport, then you won't be able to see any objects residing in modelspace.

To create one:

  1. On a layout tab=>Layout Tools Tab=>Layout Viewports Panel=>Click rectangular <<This will allow you to draw a rectangular shaped viewport.>>
  2. Using your mouse, draw a rectangle on the white sheet, make sure rectangle doesn't intersect thin dashed line running along edges of white sheet. <<This rectangle is your new viewport.>>
  3. Activate the viewport. <<Your cursor will appear 'inside' the viewport when it's activated.>>
  4. Go to command line=>Z=>enter=>E enter. <<Does viewport display objects in modelspace?? >>
  5. Now is the time you establish viewport scale. <<Optional: Lock the VP after setting the scale.>>

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> I’m having difficulty bringing up new drawings from model space to paper space.

You have to make a viewport rectangle by MVIEW command then directly draw your rectangle with a proper size.

>> I have tried changing the following settings: LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, and MSLTSCALE

Usually these system variables controls the scale factor for linetypes, affecting the appearance of dashes and spaces in all objects within a drawing.

So, we need from you to tell us exactly your need?
