Need Viewport to show models from arch and decimal for large area and view keeps needing regen

as I'm working to place dimensions in a 1/16" scale viewport on an ansi d sheet showing a lot of stuff but as I work the view keeps needing to regenall to display, osnaps stop working in various areas within the same viewport (no reason they should not be available as they work if I drop into model space). I think maybe I'm asking too much of the software or hardware but then I remember its 2023 and its a plan view. If I took the time to redraw it all in 2D autocad would zoom around like it was 1985 and I just pushed the turbo boost button! But all the stuff is going to change again and I want to ref the models so as they change I'll see it and can fix without having to redraw the changes because I can't reference these huge models!

TLDR-How can I make it easier on autocad so I don't have to issue a regenall and it can just display the viewport objects like it should!

Hard to say without the files.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Are there many Viewports?  If so, read about the MAXACTVP System Variable, which may help.  And you can turn off the display of Model Space content in those other than the one you want to focus on -- select a Viewport, and look at the top slot in the Misc category in the Properties palette.

Would the problems go away when you create another layout and place a vport there with the same scale?

I'm not sure how many people that are working on drawings have the permission to just post them to the user forums (I do not) but this particle file(~2-300MB and 30-40 models) is an equipment location drawing that references about 20-30 pieces of equipment that are a mix of vendor models, autocad 3d models and Cadworx (3rd party software) models that are showing in a single viewport on an ANSI D sheet (1/16" Scale). The background has the equipment models in Architectural and the site survey in Decimal feet. I'd tried using an xclip to cut down the size of objects in model space to the viewport thinking it would prevent at least enough number crunching that AutoCAD would be able to keep up with the display as it seems to require a regenall every couple minutes.

As you speak of having the file might give you more ideas perhaps you have encountered something like this before?

Just the one viewport and I've set acad to cache all model tab and all layouts. The max viewports is defaulted to 64 and I've seen this kind of thing happen when you have more than 20 but its usually limited to viewports outside the current view that don't regen automatically when you zoom out. I do feel its something with the viewport but even after trying to rebuild the drawing from scratch (its been around for 4-5 months and a lot has happened) I started getting the need for regenall almost as soon as I started adding dimensions (Ordinate dimensions that is).

I do have a multitude of vertical Autodesk products as well as CADworx, Elecdes and Advance Steel (technically an autodesk product but I think its just got a shiny new skin over its 3rd party code) models that make up the backgound but this is fine for drawings that show at 3/8" and even 1/4" scale with the same kinds of models used.

Any other variables I can set to help? Been contemplating just trying to work with hardware acceleration turned off...to see if that would do it.

I tried rebuilding the drawing (see reply above) to see if it was just something got screwy along the way but no luck.

Wondering what techniques anyone here might have used when dealing with a bulky drawing that is just slow to respond due to the larger quantity of xrefs? Today I have resorted to unloading some of the bulkier equipment and that has worked but the workflow leaves a lot to be desired.
