Using ProjectWise Integrated AutoCAD 2016.

Although Layout tabs show up, the model tab does not.  I have tried toggling on and off "display model and layout tabs" under Options, which does not help.

Type ABOUT to see what SP level you are at. I saw this before and I think it was fixed with SP4. You see the little down arrows to the right of the tabs? (Left of your model button). Hit that.

The window was un-maximized so that I could get a good screen shot.  Maximizing does not help.

I have SP1 installed.  Is there any way to know if SP4 solved this?

Yes, I can click on the double down arrows which lists all the layouts and models, and right clicking on any of the layout tabs also gives me an option to "activate model tab."  So those are two workarounds, but I would rather have the model tab back.

Not 100%. There were some "Status bar" fixes done, but the only thread posted here did not have a response. Worth a shot.

Last week it happened with my mech 2016 when I was back in office from a period of leave.

What I did was clicking the area on left side of "Layout" tab. Then "Model" tab came back.

Just talked to a client who was having the same issue - specifically they have Civil 3D and Projectwise. If you set STARTMODE to 0 you will see this behavior. Check that it is set to 1 on your system.

Sorry, late to the party.  what happens if you left click on the model tab in the double arrow pulldown?  Is there am option if you right click next to the layout tab to show tabs above the status bar?  you can use the system variable to switch TM <enter> 1 <enter> will switch to model.  0 will switch to the last used layout tab.

Sorry, By re-reading your post #1, I did a search again and found nothing except system variable "LayoutTab".

Warren, thanks for the suggestion. STARTMODE is indeed set to 0, but the response when I try to change to 1 is "STARTMODE is read only". Any idea how to get around in order to try your suggestion?

How are you trying to change it? If you are just typing "STARTMODE" and it is replying that it READ-ONLY that is going to be an issue. It might be the ProjectWise that is goofing that up (although my client could change it at will).

Did you ever install the latest service pack? Again - I'm not 100% certain if that will fix the issue, but this is abnormal behavior.

Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions.  Just trying to button this up.  No "solution" was found, although there are some workarounds and untried suggestions.  The problem seems to be isolated to projectwise files.

Workarounds:

Using the double down arrows to the right always works.

Right clicking on any layout tab and selecting "activate model tab" always works.

If I open autocad and use file>open to browse to the file (rather than just double clicking a file in projectwise), model tab appears.

If I open a drawing by double clicking in projectwise, no model tab.  If I open a second drawing by same method, model tab appears in both drawings.

Untried suggestions:

Install latest service packs, potentially SP4.  I'm on SP1, but so are the rest of my colleagues - working for a big company, I can't go rogue and install a newer SP than everyone else.

Thanks everyone!

I have just had this happen, I resolved it eventually by right clicking on the layout tab and creating a new layout tab from template.  I then deleted this tab as it wasn't needed and this made the Model tab reappear.

This worked for me! Not sure how I managed to untick it earlier.

Left click the word "Layout" on the tab, hold and drag to the right and "model" should reappear. : )

After reading thru this post, I found that left clicking on one of the layout tabs and attempting to move it by dragging will cause the model tab to return. Not sure why it was hiding as this was the first time the issue has shown itself.
