Mleader background mask buffer doesn't match frame around text

The new text frame for mtext uses the background mask offset so that if background mask is enabled, the text frame matches that masking. That isn't the case for mleaders and has been an issue since mleaders first appeared in AutoCAD. Please take a look at this issue and see if if can be fixed.

Thank you.

Thanks for the post. Can you attach a sample drawing showing this issue?

I've attached a sample mleader style created in an OOTB Civil 3D template. Here's what I see in version 2015.

I have the same issue. The mask and text frame should match but they don't if you begin to grip edit the mleader width.

If this gets to development it would be real nice to have full control of the mask and frame from the properties dialog and with a right click function.

Presently you can turn the mask on in the props dialog but there is not control for the mask color.

I agree with @jmayo-EE regarding the need to access background mask properties such as offset and color. This could be accomplished by adding a button that opens the current background mask dialog. Having this setting in the mleader style would save a lot of extra clicks after placing the mleader. Thanks for adding that comment, @jmayo-EE.

I can see this behavior in your drawing but so far I have not been able to duplicate this issue from scratch. Could you possibly create a Screencast showing how you did this from scratch?

The video is recorded and uploaded but may not be done processing yet on the Screencast page. Here's a link.

I found this thread because I have the same problem in AutoCAD 2013.

After seeing you had the prblem in a 2015 vertical, I tested this behaviour on and install of AutoCAD 2016. It appears to have been fixed in 2016.

Okay Tom, here is a workaround:

  1. Remove the mask from the Frame in Properties.
  2. Edit the MText and select Background Mask from the Text Editor Ribbon.
  3. Change the Border offset factor to suit the Frame (iterative process).

For example, I had a Frame Offset of 1.5 and I had to edit the MText Border offset factor to 1.59 to work with the Frame.

The creative solution we found for this issue is to set the Landing Gap in the mleader style to 0.05. The OOTB default is 0.09. Once we changed this value in the mleader style the background mask matches the text frame extents.

I never use mleaders because this trash.  They're not worth the frustration.
