I am not a computer wizard, just an AutoCAD operator.
So, this may not be the place to ask for help. You can tell me to take it elsewhere.
This week, it takes up to 5 min. to open a drawing file and just as long to exit a file, even if there were no changes to save. The drawing file I just tried to open was only 207 kb.
If I need to talk to an IT guy, what would I tell him other than what I mentioned above?
Any Ideas out there ?

Open Task Manager and look at the Performance tab. If any of the graphs on the side are filled above 50% while you're trying to open and close your files, make a note of that, and relay that to your IT guy as well. If you're feeling savvy, go to the "processes" tab, and sort each resource column so that it tells you what programs are hogging which resources, and relay that information, as well. That will tell you if you have a virus, or if your IT department is running some background monitoring program that's slowing your computer down, etc. You could also be seeing the effects of an update that's being applied during working hours, instead of waiting for an off-shift.
The computers where I work are so slow, I actually have to instruct it to open a file twice: the first time it just gets through opening AutoCad, but forgets which file I asked it to open. Once it gets AutoCad open, I have to go remind it which file I was looking for.

Is it just this particular project?
Have you tried to AUDIT, -PURGE, and PU all your drawings - including xrefs? (Could be a corrupt file)
Try copying some files to your desktop (maybe a Network issue).
Please select the "Accept as Solution" button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Thanks for your quick reply.
The IT guy is coming at lunch time.
I'll share your notes with him.
