linear dimension at mouse pointer

Hello,

I would like to create a dimension style that is linear, only one extension line is used, the text is offset next to the arrow and when I use BASELINE, all following dimensions will drop exactly where i click the mouse. At the moment, I have what I want except the baseline dim is always "inline" with the previous dim. I've attached a pic showing the "snap" layout I'm working on. Basically when I click on the wall I want the distance from 0,0 to drop at the point I click.

I would suggest you not use the BASELINE option, but rather make a command macro or AutoLisp routine that starts a linear Dimension and feeds in 0,0 as the first point for you, waits for you to give it a second point, and uses that second point again for the placement.  I think you would need separate ones for Horizontal and Vertical directions, because with just DIMLINEAR the diagonal direction from 0,0 to the second point will determine whether it shows the horizontal or vertical measurement.

I didn't set up a Style like yours, but these seem to work as macros in Tool Palette buttons, in minimal testing:

^C^CDIMHORIZONTAL 0,0 \@

^C^CDIMVERTICAL 0,0 \@

wow.......wow, so simple. I added an asterisk to front of macro to keep it
running for multiple picks. You cured my woes! Funny, I've created macros
for other things in the past, but this one just lurked in the shadows for
me.....kudos!!

Now, lets see if I can make it work with DIMLINEAR.

The 12'-3 3/4" dimension in your image is an example of one that won't work right using DIMLINEAR.  The point is farther rightward than it is upward from 0,0, so DIMLINEAR is going to give you the horizontal measurement rather than the vertical.

Correct sir, but it would be nice not to have to click a separate icon
button to change directions.

An AutoLisp routine  could certainly be written in which you could call one command, and as an option within one running of it, type an H or V to change the direction you want to measure, and back and forth as desired.  That command could be called from a Tool Palette button, or as a typed-in command name.

Thanks again.

In all the years using Autodesk products I've never been able to comprehend the writing of lisp routines.  I was hoping someone out there had already gone the extra mile and knocked this one out. Once more, I'm keeping hope alive a lisp will show up in my mail box.

BTW, I was reminded about macros, so I'm now able to create the dims I need, just not as efficient as a lisp.

Thanks for your input.
