Layout view in AutoCAD 3D

Hi,

My students recently drew 3D shapes in AutoCAD 2016, 3D Modeling.  We went to Layout 1, Layout tab, and imported the object by clicking "base" (from model space).  We dropped in front, top, side and Iso. views.  The views look fine and are visable but when you go to click on the front "parent" view, you cannot.  You can't click on any view for that matter so you can't make changes to scale or visability.

Thanks,

Mark

It sounds as though the views are being created with the VIEWBASE command.

Those view maintain a fidelity to the model. In other words when changes are made to the model the views will update accordingly. Individual view geometry is not editable.

Once a model is complete and it is desirable to modify the view elements the layout can be exported to a new drawing with the EXPORTLAYOUT command.

It doesn't make for the best or ideal workflow but it's important for your students to understand.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow.  Is there anyway to aviod this from the start?  Because it does not happen to everyone but we are all using the viewbase command...

Hi @MrDotta,

I recently posted a bug to development describing something similar to this. While most users never experience this issue I have seen it on occasion. I encourage those that have this problem to use layouts to create views.

When you see unexpected behavior - I recommend attaching the dataset here so that Autodesk has actual files that can be examined.

If you can, attach folder with dataset that behaved as expected and folder of dataset that exhibits the unexpected behavior for comparison.

Copying and pasting the shape into a new file seems to have fixed the problem.  Thanks
