Layer Manager Issue

Hello,

Since AutoCAD 2024, I have been having issues with my Layer Manager. Now, am in AutoCAD 2026, still the same issue.

When I change a property of a layer, it will show changed in the Layer Manager, but not in the drawing. However, with Classic Layer, the drawing always reflects any change made. I had both Classic Layer and Layer Manager side by bide. Any change made in the Layer Manager might not reflect in the Classic Layer, and any change made in the Classic Layer reflects in the Layer Manager.

Setting LAYERDLGMODE>0 means that every time I manage a layer, I would have to APPLY, then CLOSE to use AutoCAD; that is a pain and a a big waste of precious time.

I have tried samples with AutoCAD reset to factory, still the same, where Layer Manager does not 'accepts' any change made but will not apply it to the related drawing. Again, this is temperamental.

Cheers

I cant say I've ever heard of this issue, can you share some screenshots of what you are seeing in your layer properties manager?  You didn migrate settings from previous releases into the newer versions, did you?  Or did you just start with a brand new setup when you went to the new version?  I'm a little confused by your statement on the Layerdlgmode variable, setting it to 1 changes to the palette.  I dont have an apply on my machine, as soon as I make the change it takes.

I don't think that it is intended to use both dialogs at the same time. Help says, "The LAYER command can use either the CLASSICLAYER or the LAYERPALETTE command." The work "either" implies using one or the other, not both. Why do you have both dialogs open? I've never heard of anyone doing that. When you set LAYERDLGMODE, the LAYER command will only open one dialog. It stands to reason that the system will only update the one chosen. That said, I did do a test and change the color of one layer using CLASSICLAYER and the layer properties palette did update. That was independent of the LAYERDLGMODE setting.

I am familiar with this issue regarding the Layer Manager.
After working in a drawing for some time, it can happen that changes made to layers within the Layer Manager are not applied—though they are applied in the Classic interface.
This problem can usually be resolved by closing and then restarting the Layer Manager.

@omorah Share a DWG file here with the problem, explain how we can replicate it, and include a video of you in action showing how it fails please.

Also include a screenshot of your AutoCAD's ABOUT command pop-up please and confirm your WindowsOS version.

I will share when it happens. I never know when it will happen since it's temperamental. I'll do my best to keep track and share.

When it happens, I have closed and reopened the Layer Manager, and I have closed the file and AutoCAD. Situations like this, closing and reopening either the Layer Manager or AutoCAD does not fix it since I won't know. What I mean is that, opening and closing either, all will be fine until it happens again.

If you cannot replicate the issue on demand then no one else will be able to do it either, so there is not likely going to be a solution.

If you can identify the circumstances, perhaps a specific set of drawings or a specific location for a drawing or you have other system issues perhaps you dismissed, then someone else can try to reproduce them and might be able to assist you with a solution.

In the interim, if the only circumstance is you leave your single DWG file open all day long and perhaps even overnight, I suggest you try the workaround someone else suggested here:

I do not use both dialogs. I open Classic Layer to check/compare the layers, or just not even open the Layer Manage since in my system, it not 'trusted' to apply any change I make in a layer.

This been happening for about since 2024. I started using 2026. Actually, I had reset 2026 to have a 'clean' AutoCAD version, and imported all my settings to the CUIX.

My only thought is that some sort of issue is in one of my LISPs. But then, I think I have tried to see if it will happen with a reset AutoCAD, I think it did. Working with a reset AutoCAD will be very 'painful' since I've been used to working with shortcuts for over thirty years using some sort of shortcut.

Thanks. I get your point. IF I could replicate the issue at command, I will do so in a heart beat; I just can't since I don't know what causes it and don't even know when it happens. I know it happened if something I had done in the Layer Manager previously did not apply. I will surely do my best to have something to show. I really appreciate your concerns. I'll try my best.
