layer description - Copy to another drawing

Hello!

Is there a way to copy layers and include the layer description when copying from one file to another? Layer settings are no issue but for some reason the layer description doesn't follow when I copy a line with a sertain layer or importing layers through Designcenter.

Anyone knows a solution to this issue? Seems like there should be one but haven't found a topic on it when i've googled it....

Yes, the easiest way to do so is copy the layers from the original drawing using the DesignCenter. (ADCENTER)

Simply browse to te source drawing. open the drawing, open the Layers. Select and 'Drag & Drop' them into your destination drawing.

If it happens more often, include the layers (with the description) in your template file.

I only now see that you experience these problems with the Design Center. This is no standard behaviour. It should 'copy' the complete layer incl. description.

You might try to use Wblock to export the object and layer you want, and import into the destination drawing. This should also copy the complete layer.

Hi!

Seems like this is the problem that I haven't managed to figure out before! When using "drag & drop" in Design center from the destination drawing while its open the layer description follows. When using "Drag & drop" from a drawing that is not open the layer description does not follow!

Thanks!

Hi! Problem solved with Design center "drag & drop" if the source drawing is open. Also works copying objects/lines from an open drawing. Seems like the key to the issue is to have the source drawing open 😃

Yes, when copying from the source drawing the description follows!

Thanks!

If you go into layers, select LAYER STATE MANAGER, delete all the layer states then save your drawing. the this will work.

The DESCRIPTION  will copy over to the new drawing using Design centre.

the DESCRIPTION will copy if you select an object copy it using the CLIPBOARD COPY command and then paste it into the new drawing as well.

there is something in the LAYER STATES which stops the description from being copied to a new drawing...WHO KNOWS WHAT THAT IS ????????????????? maybe AUTODESK can help out !

jut to be clear I'm using Autocad LT 2022
