Large highlighted border around linked excel table

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi There,

I inserted a linked Excel table using COMMAND > TABLE > then selecting "From a data link". The Excel table shows up fine, however whenever I hover my cursor above the table to select it (resize table for example) and the table is "highlighted", denoting I can select it, a fat green and white border pops up around the table.

This makes it very difficult to see the contents of the table as well as format the table correctly. Is there a way to change this setting so that when I hover my cursor over the table, or select the table, the highlighted table doesn't have such a large and clunky highlighted selection border?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Can you post a screenshot?

(Oh, and what version of AutoCAD?)

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

It sounds like some scaling has been applied to the table. Does it make any difference if it is inserted at 1:1 in paperspace? In modelspace?

AutoCAD 2016...and is there a way to edit my original post to include the image or do I have to include it in a REPLY?

It may be possible to edit your original post (but I think once someone has responded to it, probably not).  If not, adding another reply is no big deal.

I knew I'd seen this before:

Unfortunately, no solution then either (as far as I know).

HI @Anonymous,

Can you attach a sample file for me to examine?  Also, did you consider the items in my last post?

I've encountered this before and found no definitive solution.  As a work around:

  • Delete the table
  • Using Datalink Manager, delete the link to the Excel file
  • Start over with a new link & new table

It's a hassle but sometimes it works...

I get the same issue when every one in a while. It seems to be an issue with the text style for the table is set to large. Mine was set to .50 instead of .06. If you go to format -> text styles. select the style your table is using (mine was standard). set the text height for what you think you should be using in the table.

Just scale the whole table, it will also scale the table "tools, indicators and highlights".
But after you have to resize the whole thing.

I had this issue also. The way I fixed it was to scale the table to 1/100. Then select the table and in Properties palette, change the all the sizes back to what they were originally ie. move the decimal points 2 places to the right. Now the border will be small but the table will look the same as before.
