Importing .laz files directly into AutoCAD without ReCap

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a way to open .laz files in AutoCAD without using the ReCap application. Do you know of a method to convert these files for direct import into AutoCAD? Or is it necessary to use ReCap to work with .laz files in AutoCAD?

Thank you in advance for your advice and help.

If you were to consider third party add-ons, the low cost MapWorks for AutoCAD will read and write .LAZ files, allow point reductions and TinSurface generation, along with hundreds of additional tools.

You'll need to purchase a tool, whether from Autodesk or someone else @acourriol
How would you like to proceed? Nothing built into AutoCAD will do what you need, sorry.

Hi Alexandre,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
"...convert these files for direct import into AutoCAD..."
More information please on what you want to do with them. Are you using Vanilla AutoCAD or Civil 3D or Map 3D?
The free LASTools can convert LAS/LAZ files to XYZ text files. I think CloudCompare and GeoViewer also can. Terry's DotSoft tools are definitely the easiest way to go.

Bien sûr, voici la traduction en anglais :

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

Let me explain more precisely what I want to do. I use software to create 3D sectional views. These sectional views are slices of point clouds that I then export in .laz format. My goal is to import these sectional views into AutoCAD.

Currently, I have to create ReCap files to open my point cloud in AutoCAD. The problem is that I need to manually create a large number of projects in ReCap for each sectional view, which is very time-consuming.

I am therefore looking for an alternative solution to transform my point cloud files more efficiently.

Thank you in advance.

Alexandre,
With Civil 3D you can create cross sections at any interval you'd like.

I don't know if this will help, but there is a program available that will convert LAS/LAZ files to TXT. Search for "LAS2TXT.EXE".  Info here: https://lastools.github.io/download/las2txt_README.txt

I am using an old version of AutoCAD so I am not familiar with point clouds.  I just use these LAS/LAZ files to generate a cloud of POINTs and convert them to TINs.
