How to select lines vs. polylines?

Am using Autocad 2016.

When there are many elements at the same location, how can one cycle thru them?

For example, a floor plan has a polyline all the way around the room, with normal lines at the same locations.

Say when using the Presspull command, how can one tell Autocad to select the line instead of the polyline?

Hi bruce4444,

Selection cycling is probably what you are looking for to resolve your issue.  Also, you might consider keeping the polylines on their own layer so that you can select them more easily by isolating them or by freezing and/or locking other layers.

Hello Bruce4444, Several options here: 1) use layers for types; if you have boundaries for areas (Polylines) then put them on a layer so you can select by layer. 2) Use the filter command; select, filter and chose lines vs polylines 3) You can cycle through the objects that lay on top of each other. I just tried SC with lines on top of plines and when using PP and selecting on top of the two objects SC does not kick in. SC works with other editing commands but not PP. Release 2016.

With SC on, click on top of the lines, pick the pline from the list, right click to bring up a menu, pick Draw Order, Bring to Front.  Now PP will get the pline.

You should report this bug. No reason I can see why SC shouldn't work here.

I think you might be right! When I try it and try to cycle through the elements, the PP command actually cancels. Your method for using SC also works great though and provides a nice workaround.

At any rate, I would never have the patience to cycle through objects. I would merely isolate or freeze things until I only had displayed the exact objects I with which I wanted to work.

Old-school I guess. Thanks for your suggestions on this thread.

Using the Ctrl key? Won't work since that has special meaning during the PressPull command.
