How to Permanently Embed Images in AutoCAD 2021 DWG File?

I am using AutoCAD 2021 and I often need to insert pictures into my CAD drawings. Normally, when I attach a picture, AutoCAD only references the file location. The problem is, if the picture is deleted or moved from its original folder, it also disappears from my CAD file.

I want to know if there is a way to permanently embed the picture inside the DWG file itself, so that even if the original image is deleted from my computer, the picture will still remain in the drawing.

I tried using the INSERTOBJ command to insert pictures, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Also, for higher-resolution images, it often shows "unsupported" or resolution problem or doesn’t display properly.

👉 Is there any reliable method or command in AutoCAD 2021 to permanently embed images into the drawing file without depending on the external file location?

One method is to insert images as OLE using the Windows Snipping Tool:

  • Open the source image
  • Open the Snipping Tool
  • Start a new image snip
  • Window the source image
  • Open your target AutoCAD dwg
  • Ctrl+V (paste) the image into the dwg

The image will be imbedded with no external reference.

Would you tell us about your attempt. What did you do?

I found your trials inside the CAD dwg.

I download a high-resolution image from the web and open it with Paint and Ctrl+C. then i paste in AutoCAD with NO problem. So,your original image must be in a good resolution to get a good result.
