First and probably only post, but I had a hard time finding how to open AutoCAD .scr files in the latest Windows 11. In case it wasn't posted yet, enter this into Command Prompt while running as Administrator (no quotes):
For Windows 11: "assoc .scr=scriptletfile"
For Windows 10: "assoc .scr=txtfile"
You cannot assoc .scr file to open with AutoCAD but you should be able to assoc to open with notepad. Have you tied old fashion method of using Windows Explorer to right mouse click on any .scr file, then select Properties and then Change to associate to notepad?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I wanted to open it with Notepad. scr files are Screen Saver files for Windows by default, but for my purposes they are script text files. In Right-click --> Properties there's no option to Open with any file for Screen Savers. "assoc .scr=txtfile" used to work, but on Windows 11 it still prompts me to choose a program to open it (clicking Always Run w/ Notepad doesn't work either). The only "assoc" that works now is scriptletfile.
I've also been trying to figure this out ever since accidentally upgrading to Windows 11. I tried your method, but I got an "access is denied. Error occurred while processing: .scr".
My User is the Admin, so IDK why access is denied, unless it's a Windows 11 Home limitation.
Why isn't there a script edit command in AutoCAD itself?
Hi
and why not open via open command in your editor?
Why not by right-click 'open with'?
Why not...
>>"Why isn't there a script edit command in AutoCAD itself? "
1. No need
2. Because AutoDESK didn't implemented such a feature.
Sorry, but we are all users like you 🙂
