How to draw this oval shape?

I've been given both of these as a homework from a uni professor who doesn't explain anything and isn't responding to emails. I have no idea on how to draw the main oval shape thing of both of these and English isn't my first language so I cannot name or explain it. Any help, especially a video on how to draw it would be appreciated.

Is an ellipse going to work for this? Any idea on arguments to throw at the function?

@Anonymous  hi,

start with the center lines than add all central circles. at the left side add the 2 full circles (yes for the outer one also)

your challenge is this:

1. to draw the left outer tangent lines (up & down). well this is very easy to do with osnap tangent (are you already familiar with osnaps?) 

2. cut off the redundant lines (with trim command)

3. do a mirror for the right side

4. you are done 😀
