How can I keep the ribbon view in ACAD?

Hi guys,

Can anyone help with the below:

Ever since I got ACAD 2017 8 months ago, it always opened in ribbon view - which is what Im used to so it was great.

Now for some reason, ACAD keeps opening in classic view and I cant seem to get ribbon view back.

typing ribbon comes back with 'unknown error'

The only way I can get back the ribbon view is if I go in the folder location where ACAD programme is located, send selecting 'reset settings'  - this then automatically launches ACAD, which opens with ribbon view.

The problem is, if I close the programme and open it again - it opens in a classic view again! - How can I change it to ribbon view and KEEP it that way?

To my knowledge, I haven't meddled with any settings, which could have caused this. Does anyone have any ideas how I can reset it to ribbon view and keep it that way, please?

Thank you

Are you actively saving your workspace after you get the ribbon back?
Have you tried to just change your workspace to one with the Ribbon?
Are you starting AutoCAD with an external ARG profile file?

What changed recently? Something did on your computer or in AutoCAD.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried saving the workspace when I get the ribbon back, but I still have the same problem - if I close the programme and open it again, it opens with a classic view and no command is able to get ribbon back. The saved workspace is still there but if I click on it (or try changing from one workspace to another), it does not bring ribbon back.

I'm suspecting it might have something to do with what you said - 'Are you starting AutoCAD with an external ARG profile file?'

I'm not too familiar with ARG profile files - is it possible that I accidently changed the default profile that loads up every time CAD is launched to the one that has a classic view? And how can I reset the default profile that loads when CAD is launched to the one that has a ribbon view?

(also, where would the ARG files be kept?)

Thank you!

Q: how do you start the program, double-clicking on a DWG file in WIndows explorer, or starting the program first through a link?

I have tried launching the programme by double-clicking the shortcut on my desktop and I have tried launching the programme by double-clicking the DWG files saved on my computer or saved on a shared company drive (so yes windows explorer) - All of these opens the ACAD in classic view 😞 😞 😞

I'm thinking I might try uninstalling the programme and re-installing it again - see if it solves the problem? I wanted to keep this as a last resort because it's a lot of effort to do this on a company computer and also if it happens again I haven't gotten any wiser in solving it...

Thanks @pendean

So I already do that (please see my initial post) in order to get the ribbon view back - which works. However, the problem is that if I close the programme, and open it again (i.e when I shut down at the end of the day and start the computer again the next day), it comes back with a classic view.

I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programme (AutoCAD 2017 - English) and it still came back with a classic view :((((

Post screenshots of your entire AutoCAD program window, maximized, and post in full resolution (do not put it in a MSword document or anything else).

Screenshot tip if you don't know how https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots

Please show us the screen capture of your "Classic View" as far as I know 2017 did not have the "Classic View" options anymore.

Are you talking about just seeing ICONS and not the Ribbon ?

P.S.

Please see attached the ribbon view I'd like to get back permanently (which opens only when I reset to default settings, but if I close the program and open it again, it disappears).

Command RIBBON
Command CUI
Expand WORKSPACES and highlight the desired workspace.
Right-click on the desired workspace and select "Set Current".
Right-click on the desired workspace and select "Set Default".
OK button.

Command WSSAVE and use the drop down to point to the
desired workspace.
Save button.

If this does not work, it is possible your registry is not being
updated with the desired workspace or ribbon state values.
Make sure your profile is able to write to the registry.

"ribbon: unknown command" tells me your AutoCAD profile preloaded something unique with a bad or different or older MNL file.

Log into Windows as a totally different user with admin credentials and test AutoCAD without using any sort of migration or importing from an older version: does the problem go away?
