Help!

When I open a specific type of drawing that has MTEXT in vertical fashion, my Autocad will automatically convert this into regular text and is horizontal. Why is it doing this? Also - when I zoom in to text on the screen, the "thickness" of the text scales up. As I zoom out, the text becomes a "block" of whatever color the text is.

Background: I have been messing around with CUI, creating my own CUI etc. I accidentally unloaded ACAD.CUI. After searching for it again, I was able to reload it. When I reloaded it, there were several more tabs than what I needed in CAD, so I removed them and saved the CUI to acad<myname>.cui and used it instead. I don't know if this is why this is happening or not.

Do I just need to reload the original acad.cui? Thanks hopefully someone knows what I am needing 😞

Correction - CAD does not change mtext to text - I thought this was the case. The text is "regular" text - but verical. Whenever I open these drawings, they show up as horizontal, on other people's machines, they show up correctly, as vertical.

Under the "Text Style" dialog box, the Vertical box is grayed out as well. Does the ACAD.CUI I deleted reference something and I just didn't make the connection again?

Share that DWG file that works for everyone else and not you please: make an effort to share a screenshot from your PC and from another's PC were it all looks differently as well.

CUI is not the reason: much like a car's color on performance... .

OR... you could just RESET your AutoCAD, and/or export AutoCAD Settings from someone else' PC then IMPORT them to yours.

Here is a screenshot of how it looks on my computer -

Here is a screenshot of how it looks on my co-workers computer -

(Not the same one but similar, you get the idea hopefully)

It is EVERY drawing I open that the texts do this, not just a single drawing. Everyone else is still operating as normal, it's almost like I lost a fontmap, but I checked and I still have the fontmap that everyone else has.

Also notice how much "thicker" (brighter) the text is from my computer to the co-workers, it should look the same as theirs yet for some reason not.

I suspect you are missing a font file.  Are they in a Style that uses a .SHX font?  The .SHX fonts that come with AutoCAD are defined to be capable of doing vertical text, but that needs to be an explicit part of the definition of each character in the font [find 00E >here<], and it isn't a choice in .TTF fonts at all.  The description sounds like you are missing the .SHX font used for the Style [or maybe you have a version of it without the vertical-possible element in the character definitions], but other people's machines have it.

Font Substitution is quite evident.

The font name is simplex.shx, but under the "effects" of text syle dialog box, the "vertical" box is grayed out.

file name means nothing at all when the look is so dramatically different.

"vertical" box is always grayed out in annotative text.

One more time: share a DWG file please. Ask your boss for permission to do so if needed.

You can reset your Autocad back to the original or take your co-worker's CUI's and replace yours.

Then my guess is that your copy of the font file called Simplex.shx is not the same as other people's, whether because some other source called theirs the same thing but it's not defined for vertical use, or maybe yours got corrupted somehow [but that doesn't seem likely to happen in a way that has no effect other than to eliminate the vertical option].

The vertical option is greyed out if a font isn't built for it.  The option is not just in the character definitions, but also in a header entry at the top of the font file -- find the "modes" argument >here<.

Try stealing that file from one of the other people's computers.  [By the way, it comes out right for me in your sample drawing.]

Indeed, it seems only TTF fonts are affected in general.

If these limited few files are literally the only place you see this issue with the SIMPLEX font, and absolutely no where else in any other project file, then the substitute font may be only present in that session.

Are you loading a custom AutoCAD PROFILE, or different OS Login, or are there a stack of SHX fonts along with the DWG files by chance?

In any project file I open with these types of texts (vertical type) they all do the same thing. I have reset CAD several times to no avail. I have swapped profiles to no avail, unloading and reloading CUI's to no avail.

All of my issues began after I accidentally unloaded acad.cui, and subsequently reloaded it. After reloading it, the amount of "Tabs" (home, annotate, export/import data headers at the top of the screen) was immense, there was 3D drafting tabs, mesh tabs, I assume every tab there is in the acad.cui, so I started remving them.

If all I need to do is unload this CUI, grab the acad.cui from a co-worker, and load that onto my autocad, I will do that but I did not imagine that was the issue, I could be mistaken.

acad.cui should not impact your text style

now if for some reason AutoCAD is using a TrueType Text font for your Simplex then the Vertical option is always greyed out. Check to see if AutoCAD can actually locate Simplex.shx by doing the following at the command prompt:

(findfile"simplex.shx")

Do the same on your coworkers computer

Copy that file over to the same location on your system and repeat the command:

(findfile"simplex.shx")

You may have to exit AutoCAD and restart it to see the change.
