I'm working for a surveying company. The last few years we only worked in 2D-models, but as the market is changing, we want to make the step to 3D.
However, we are currently experiencing sudden freezes while working in certain (larger) drawings. (lag spikes while rotating an object or our view. These lagspikes also occur when executing certain commands with a large amount of objects)
We have decent systems, a few years old, but decent enough (i7-9700, 16GB RAM & Nvidia Quadro P400).
After a little research I found out that the fileserver is the bottleneck in the process. Since our computer never exceeds a 50% load.
Our IT-guy suggests upgrading all the networkcards (from 1 GBps to 10GBps) and while that looks like a viable option, it doesn't help our colleagues working from home. Besides that, I'm not certain whether we have the newest CAT-cables in our office (probably only CAT5e or CAT6).
In my opinion, these lagspikes could be fixed if we stored our drawings locally. However, they need to be accesible to all our colleagues.
Is there a way to temporarilly save the drawings you are working in locally? So the networkconnection isn't the bottleneck. When we are done with the drawing, it should automatically upload to the server.
