Hatch Dialog Box Layer Order

When I access the Hatch dialog box and I go to choose a layer for the hatch I get a random order of all the layers in my drawing.  Is it possible to set  something so that the layers appear in alphabetical order?

Hi @Anonymous,

Does the MAXSORT variable help to correct this issue?

I tried changing this number to the maximum with no change from before. This is not as critical problem obviously, it is one that piques my curiosity as I am always trying to get deeper into how the settings in AutoCAD can be modified for the users preference.

I used the HPLAYER command to set the default Hatch layer as “Hatch”, the layer I typically use. By adding a line in the ACADDOC.lsp this is now the same for any drawing I open.

One other thing I would like to be able to set would be the color. I would prefer it default to BYLAYER instead of being set at “Use Current”.

Thanks for your time and help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Interesting about the layer sorting.  I don't usually use this workflow as it seems like more steps than placing the hatch and then using MATCHPROP to get it on the right layer.  Can you share a sample drawing so I can play with it? I tried this on one of my more complex files and the layers of course sorted normally.

For the color of the hatch, you can set the HPCOLOR variable.

Hi,

can you please upload this drawing as well as a screenshot where we can see how the layer names are shown and sorted on your system?

Also please let us know your version of AutoCAD and update (command _ABOUT ==> screenshot ==> would be great).

I am using AutoCAD 2017 with Advance Steel 2017.  Here are the specifics:

AutoCAD Product Version N.402.0.0 2017.1.2 Update

Advance Steel 2017 Build Number: 1024, Build Date: May 24 2016

Thanks for your time and help!

HI @Anonymous,

This is working properly on my AutoCAD 2019 as well as my AutoCAD 2017.

I will install Advance Steel to see if that is what is causing this problem. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks. I am using Advance Steel over the AutoCAD, so that might be the difference. Again, this is a curiosity thing. I have used AutoCAD a very long time. Circa 1988. I am always amazed at the new things I find in it.
Going on 3 years with Advance Steel. Still lots to learn there.

Thanks for your time and help.

HI @Anonymous,

I tested with the same version of Advance steel as well as the .1 update.  Both show the layer list sorting normally.

What happens if you log on as a new user? Does the behavior persist?

If you apply the latest update to Advance Steel does it change the sorting?

I am working on my companies computer which means I can only log in as myself. When we upgrade our programs it will be interesting to see what changes.

It wasn’t a critical issue with my work. Again, I just like to get to know as many capabilities and settings where I can personalize my workspace.

I thank you for your time and effort in helping me.

Same problem.

Even in a new drawing with only 4 layers, the layer sorting is incorrect.

Hi,

>> O.49.0.0 AutoCAD 2018

That means you don't have any update for your AutoCAD 2018 installed,

This is what command _ABOUT should show you:

Thanks for that.  We are still running AutoCAD 2017.  We will update sometime this year.  Maybe that will fix it.
