how to extract and use Bill of Materials in autocad 2017?

Hi,

 

the best command to get as close as possible to a BOM is to use command _DATAEXTRACTION (>>>details<<<).

Hi @Anonymous,

 

A true BOM does not exist in core AutoCAD.  You can find this feature in AutoCAD Mechanical though.

 

What kind of project are you working in? Is DATAEXTRACTION as suggested by @Alfred.NESWADBA enough to do what you are trying to obtain?

Be mindful that a data extraction will only work well if you are using Block objects and optimally if the blocks are using attributes.

The data extraction can serve as a BOM but it's in no way setup for that specific task alone.

Just to add, you can also export polylines, lines, arcs, ... and export lengths and layer-names, which also might be part of BOM 😉
