I'm working a team member to try and figure how to export a heightmap file from AutoCAD. We have a file that contains elevation data we just need to be able to export it properly.
We need the file to be the following:
I'm hoping this is obvious and we are simply missing something.
Could someone help us out?
We are trying to get the data from AutoCAD to Unreal Engine.
If the file is only 8-bit you get the steps presented in the one attached file which we're trying to avoid.
I would recommend you to post the same question on the Unreal Engine forum. There might be users who are well versed in these type of workflows.

Starting with AutoCAD 2019, support for the import and export of the FBX file format has been removed.
To convert a DWG file to FBX format, append the drawing in Navisworks and then export from Navisworks to FBX, or use AutoCAD 2018. (Command: FBXEXPORT)
Autodesk Maya can also export FBX files.

Hi Tudor,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
"...how to export a heightmap file from AutoCAD."
Your "043-ue4-heightmap-guide-02.jpg" shows a Digital Elevation Model, which can be a GeoTiff, USGS DEM, ASCII Grid, HGT, etc. It came from somewhere other than AutoCAD. Can't Unreal Engine directly import the DEM file? (I'd never even heard of Unreal Engine.)
