Existing hatching disappearing when scaled or rotated

Running ACAD 2018 and for some reason, I'm having some irregularities with hatching on this particular drawing. I've dumped most of the data and left two AR-B816 hatch patterns on the uploaded sample.

 

In the top example, if I change the rotation angle to anything between 176 and 179 degrees, the hatching disappears. Setting it at 177, then changing the scale to 0.04 will make it reappear, but then try changing the rotation to 178 (it disappears) or to 179 (it goes crazy).

 

In the bottom one, there is similar behavior. You can see the line extending out to the left which is outside of the hatch area, but which is UNSELECTABLE.

 

Finally, in addition to these issues, it looks like the issue with changing your desired hatch pattern in the middle of selecting boundary objects still exists. (Further boundary objects are not highlighted as they are selected and the hatch pattern does not appear until you exit the command.) Would really like that to be fixed.

HI,

 

as seen in attached images and when i open your CAD file i found a very big hatched circle and your elements locate on the top of this weird circle.

i suggest to do the follow :

 

  • Audit and Purge (Reg) your CAD drawing.
  • take and move your elements near to 0,0,0 . 
  • WBLOCK your elements to new CAD file.

hope now that your issue solved ... if not please attache your new CAD file for testing.

Hi @NHHiker,

 

I suggest moving your model objects to a new file. My poor little laptop's video card couldn't handle the size of this hatch you have inserted.

 

ON the boundary issue, I remember bringing this issue to the Dev. team and I see they have responded that this is working as designed. I am in agreement with you that it doesn't work optimally. I suggest that you make a feature request.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

 

I did contact the product team via your suggested method when asked to previously. I did not hear anything back from them personally regarding this. I find the fact that they responded to you that 'it is working as designed' to be pretty incredible. Clearly there is an issue which can be fixed, yet if that's the way the development team wants to view it, then I'm very disappointed. I'd love to correspond with someone on that team who feels that this behavior is productive.

 

Regarding the hatching: The hatched area is actually quite small. However, as you change angle/density, it can explode in size or disappear completely - ignoring set boundaries in the process. As suggested previously, I will try exporting the work as a block. But understanding what is going on would REALLY be preferred so that I can avoid this in the future. I have not created any 'weird circles' which should be interpreted as a hatch boundary. Nothing shows up via a Zoom Extents with all layers turned on. In fact, with the right combination of hatch density and angle, I can not only see the circle of bad hatching, but a second one on top - almost fractal-like in its appearance.

Hi @NHHiker,

 

I whole-heartedly agree with you regarding the behavior. I suggest that you  continue to provide feedback to give a bit more focus on the topic.

 

Can you use Boundary to select the hatch area? Or perhaps ( I saw this suggestion recently from another Community member) to hatch the area with a less dense hatch first and then change it after it has been applied?

 

Another option I have personally use in the past is to duplicate the boundary items and join them so I get a nice closed pline boundary before applying the hatch. Yes...an extra step.
