Exclude Thumbnails and Bookmarks DWG To PDF.pc3

Drawings are created here using Autocad Lite 2020.

Admin staff use Trueview - Print - DWG To PDF.pc3  to convert them to PDFs.

We have Properties - Custom Properties set to exclude Layer information and Bookmarks. This removed the Bookmarks from the converted PDFs, but now we have Thumbnails instead.

Can anyone suggest how to remove Thumbnails as well please. They just need to see the drawing after it's been converted to a PDF.

Can you show a screen cast of the problem.

As I see turn off bookmark thumbnail is part of a pdf reader as I understand which you can turn on and of in the pdf viewer ?

Maybe edit privacy in the pdf it self after you plotted it ?

I can be totally miss reading the problem.

After turning off thumbnails and closing the PDF, thumbnails appear on the next PDF that is created. This is the issue.

They are converting and a lot of files in quick succession like a factory.

Does anyone know how to convert DWG files to PDFs without having thumbnails appear on the PDF please?

Am I understanding the problem correct" THUMBNAILs "

Attached an Image of what I am talking of even if you print it ,if I want to see the Thumbnails in the drawing I can switch it on in the pdf viewer I use .

Meaning even if you print it with out the user can turn it on.

But this could be completely misunderstanding.

Share s screen shot of what you mean if you can

Hi,

>> It was never a problem until recently

What is the problem? I don't see it, I only know when I use Adobe Reader that it opens the side bar with thumbnails, with other PDF viewers I don't see that ... have you asked Adobe how to prevent that side bar from opening?

Also what is bad with thumbnails, they help to find the correct layout/page faster.

Do you just need to turn off these features

I haven't said there is a problem with Thumbnails, but I did say they are saving these PDFs like a factory. If someone has to do that all day they don't want to be changing the pdf after every single one.

I couldn't find a way to turn Thumbnails off, but for some reason the user's thumbnails margin was 3/4 the width of the page.

The user had changed the PDF options for Plot-Model by unticking all the relevant options, but the unfortunately didn't save the settings afterwards. So it was these settings and changing Adobe Reader to remember last settings (possibly) that gave us the best solution. I can't find a way to turn bookmarks off completely, but having the margin saved as far to the left as possible is a workable solution.

Thanks for your suggestions.

@Anonymous - I too would like to disable thumbnails.  Quite often with a multi layout dwg file the filename is quite different to the drawing names/numbers and sometimes you would not want this displayed as a thumbnail as it could be confusing to the PDF recipient.   One way I have found to reduce (not eradicate) the issue is by using Adobe Acrobat, and printing to PDF rather than Exporting to PDF.  The print version of the PDF does not open the the Thumbnail Pane as default, and when it is opened the thumbnails are numbered 1, 2, 3, ...

You could always hide the thumbnails in Adobe with  "View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Uncheck Page Thumbnails." but that will only work for you I would think.  If you send the PDF on the recipients would have the thumbnails appear on an Exported PDF.

If you find out how to disable these thumbnails please post it here... thanks.

Hi keith.mcmillan,

As mentioned, can "they" just uncheck the thumbnail from the View options within Adobe?

Hi Valentin,

I think it's unproductive to suggest external user behaviour is altered to make up for a failing within the plotting process. Users cannot be expected to communicate, with every drawing, recommended .PDF viewer settings (or even recommended .PDF viewing software) - this is far beyond our sphere of influence.

I too would like to purge my .PDFs of the 'Thumbnails' tab - I am plotting individual sheets and it serves no purpose whatsoever other than unnecessarily clogging the screen. I am relieved there is a solution to purging Comments from initial view: why is there no similar method for excluding Thumbnails?

keith.macmillan, I feel your pain.

I understand your frustration, but this "behavior" is NOT "a failing within the plotting process" or an AutoCAD issue.

When you turn off the thumbnail within the PDF viewer and generate or open another PDF, the thumbnail will stay off - this is a user preference.

For example, if I set my display of the thumbnail to be half of my screen, that is how it will be the next time I open another PDF.

Isn't this entire topic about anticipating or dictating recipient user preferences? What if they want thumbnails or bookmarks? Have you even tried to coordinate these "requirements" and why require something that is not achievable without editing after printing? Seems unproductive to even consider something that is not achievable ATM.
