Escape Key and Cancel Command not working

Yesterday I was cruising along as normal when all of the sudden my escape key stopped working.  I believe it happened after I accidentally loaded the dbconnection manager or something similar but not sure.  When I envoke a command, the escape key does nothing.  When I select something and hit the escape key, it doesn't deselect everything.  I know it's not my keyboard because I'm using a laptop and both the attached keyboard and the keyboard on the laptop function the same in that the escape key doesn't work.  I also have a Logitech Performance MX with a button set as the escape command and that doesn't work.  When I type in cancel or ^c^c, the response is "unknown command".  I have searched the discussion boards and have given up and am hoping that someone knows how to fix this in a jiffy.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello, I just want to let everyone know that I have also run into this problem, some other programs may be locking the action of the ESC key, you may still be able to cancel a command by pressing Shift+ESC at the same time. In any case, simply close the other programs you are running one at a time to find the culprit. Some have mentioned Adobe Photoshop, I personally found the issue to be another app. I hope this helps someone before they do something complicated.

I was having this problem with AutoCAD 2019. I set my PICKFIRST to 0, picked a few things and escaped, which did deselect them. Then I set it back to 1, and escape is working again.

Yes!  This is why my Esc key won't work and it's impossible to exit a command without hitting the Save button.  Closed Photoshop and it works fine again.

I had this problem, after reading some forums I got a simple solution. I suggest closing any adobe's program you have open while working with inventor before installing a weird-unknown software, re-installing inventor, or even worse, Windows.

The adobe's programs create this bug in inventor and maybe Autocad and revit (Not sure). I had opened acrobat, but for others was photoshop.

Good luck.

Hi All

My solution is similar to the Photoshop/Adobe issue but it was Omron Programmer "stealing" the Esc Key. Can't run both software at the same time.

My ESC key is not working I am running windows 10/11 with paralles. I have been running AutoCad on this viritual machine for months and have never had this issue before.

What I have tried so far:

-I don't have photoshop installed on my computer

-I have uninstalled and reinstalled AutoCAD

-I have uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard

-I have reinstalled default setting on CAD

-REGEN/AUDIT/PURGE Drawings

-CUI command and set F1 to function as ESC (not working)

@ehaskin5 I had this problem and came here for the solution.  It was so simple in my case, after trying lots of the suggested solutions.  I shut down, did a reboot and it worked again.  I was embarrassed at such a simple solution.  I hope it's this easy for you.  If not, sorry, I don't know but I've never had the problem again, touch wood.
