DWL File location

Is there a way to have the DWL file be in a different file location than the drawing location?  I am wondering because we just started a PDM system and whenever I crash it does not get rid of the DWL file in the PDM.  So in order to get this removed from the PDM i have to contact my PDM administrator to remove it.

dwl and dwl2 files are automatically created by Autocad and are used to determine if the drawing is open, or information if the drawing has crashed.  There is no way to change where they get created.

Hi,

since these are hidden system files, i suggest to set your folder options accordingly in Windows Explorer and hide this option. in this way you will not observe them again .

Unless you have a system where AutoCAD never crashes, I wouldn't recommend hiding the .dwl files: that would lead to situations where the .dwg file is locked against editing, with no easily discoverable way to notice the reason.

MAKE A BACKUP FIRST - BUT MAINLY DON'T DO THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

According to this article

1. Move WhoHas.arx to another folder not in AutoCAD's search path.

2. Edit the Registry by deleting the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R21\ACAD-xxxx:yyy\Applications\AcadWhoHas.
