Dimensions from Tool Palette won't keep fixed extension line

Hello.

I'm trying to create our "office standard" dimensions and put them in out tool palette for everyone to quick access them.

I've created them in our "standards" file and drag-drop them in my tool palette.

All our dimensions have fixed extension lines.

Now the problem:

In a fresh new drawing, whenever I start the dimension from the tool palette, Autocad would draw that dimension without the fixed extension lines. It inserts the right dim style, layer and colour, just the "fixed e.l." is unchecked from the dimension properties - it doesn't keep the setting from the original file.

If I copy-paste the dimension from another file it would paste just right. If I import the dim style from the design center it would also be ok. If I start it from the tool palette in a drawing, where the dim already exists it would start just fine.

The problem persist only by starting a dimension from the tool palette in a fresh new drawing.

I've already tried experimenting with the DIMFXLON command but it just won't make a difference.

Ideas?

A few thoughts:

Does the new dimension have a different name than "Annotative" or "Standard" that come with AutoCAD?

Is the new drawing created from the new template or a default AutoCAD template? Is the new dimstyle in the new drawing and is the extension line correct in the dimstyle?

Items from the tool palette won't overwrite a dimstyle already in the drawing so if you changed the property of default AutoCAD "Standard" or "Annotative" dimstyle it won't be overwritten in a drawing that doesn't have the change.

Nancy,

- The new dimension has its own name.

- The new drawing is created from a default Autocad template which has no dim styles but the default Annotative and Standard. Even if I use my old drawing and I delete and purge my own dim styles, by inserting them again from the tool palette the problem keeps coming back.

- By inserting the dimension from the tool palette the drawing gets the dim style and its layer. By going to Dimension Style Manager I would find the "Fixed length extension lines" to be unchecked, while it should be checked. Everything else is OK. Weird.

- I know about the dim styles that are not overwritten if they already exist in the drawing. That's why I'm using new dim styles in a completely empty drawing.

I had time to create a new dimstyle this evening and have the same outcome as you. When I used Design Center to insert the new dimstyle it had fixed extension checked. When I inserted from the Tool Palette it didn't. Anyone else able to replicate issue?

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for trying this too! I confirm that this is happening in my AutoCAD 2017 and 2018 as well and I will let QA take a look at the issue. This does not appear to be an issue in older versions that I have tested.

Thanks again.
