Dimension won't snap

Dimension won't snap

Hi all,

I'm having troubles snapping my dimensions to a perpendicular line.  It's certain drawings received from my architect that won't snap for some reason.  This is AutoCAD 2019

I have my OSnap turned on with perpendicular settings or intersection but it snaps to nothing.  The line is a 2D line, not 3D as it doesn't have Z-axis lengths.  Any idea anyone?

Post that portion of your DWG file (you know, WBLOCK command), let's all have a look for ourselves.

I don't have any trouble Osnapping to things in that.  [What's in your first image isn't part of it, so if it's an issue with specific drawing entities, we can't tell from the drawing file.]

The stairs I clipped was part of the drawing.  I can't snap this drawing either, the only parts I can snap is endpoints to endpoints; never to perpendicular.  The dimensions work if i revert UCS to original, but I need to work with the UCS lined as it's shown right now.

I am finding the same problem if  I use the catch-all DIM command [in your drawing, but not in one of my own].  If I use the more-specific DIMLINEAR command, Osnap works as expected.  I don't have any idea why the difference....

Not having any issues creating "perp" dimensions in your sample file, did you test it before posting?

Or is there something else you are doing that we need to do?

@Kent1Cooper, it isn't the file, it is ucs position&acad version.

The version is crucial, I could see it like the TO in 2019.1.2 (O.161.0.0), not in 2017 / 2018.

also in  a new DWG (without template)

near the WCS0,0,0,

in the positive quadrant of coordinate system,

yet a problem with DIM command!

IF UCS-origin is not at WCS-Y = 0

So is there a fix for this?

Not by using this UCS together with that magic youtubeinstagramtwitterteenagecommand DIM.

But read Kents answer above again and use explicit the right command for the object (linear dimension) what you try to create.

Command: DIMLINEAR

[F1]

@john.vellek , would you please check this 2019 bug?

This drawing is provided by my architects, and most of their drawings are like this.  So there's nothing I can do to change UCS or something like that? I'm no wizard in AutoCAD unfortunately :(.

My last answer offered the best way,

if you really like to work with DIM, set the current UCS to WCS.

Command: UCS

HI @cadffm,

I have been seeing a few instances similar to this lately. I am looking into  it.

Thanks!

I am late to the ballgame. I had the same issue. At times I could not snap to a dimension. I solved it by using the command "FLATTEN" and it solved my problem. Try it if you have not solved it yet. Good luck.
